TheFinalWord
I am sick of "christians" thinking they are above non believes, and yet acting like total jerks! Yeah, I can understand that. Pretty much everyone thinks they are better than everyone else. People are generally self-centered and put themselves first; irrespective of their faith. But your post made me think about a common problem with Christians and non-Christians alike. That is to look to man as some sort of role model, instead of Christ. Christians are supposed to be Jesus' ambassadors on earth. However, we believers are still human and have a carnal nature and put ourselves first just like everyone else (That's not excusing what was done to you). The main difference with a Christian is when we ask Christ into our heart we are admitting to God, "yes, I am a hypocrite". That reminds me of a friend who told me "I can't stand church, it's full of hypocrites" I told her, "Don't worry we have room for you too" For Christians, same thing happens. We tend to look to "rock star" preachers and become overwhelmed with their charisma or intelligence. We then tend to project Christ onto them. Then when they fall, our faith is smashed...think of someone like Jimmy Swaggert, many left the faith after he committed adultery that b/c they focused on Jimmy instead of Christ. "What I mean is that each one of you says, “I follow Paul,” or “I follow Apollos,” or “I follow Cephas,” or “I follow Christ.” Is Christ divided? Was Paul crucified for you? Or were you baptized in the name of Paul? " - I cor. 1 Christ is the only one that is perfect, if we set our desires on any human, and elevate them to god-like status, we are setting ourselves up for failure. Notice the apostles constantly reminded people not to make them into anything more than message bearers: "For what we preach is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of God’s glory displayed in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay (human bodies) to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us." "Now at Lystra there was a man sitting who could not use his feet. He was crippled from birth and had never walked. He listened to Paul speaking. And Paul, looking intently at him and seeing that he had faith to be made well, said in a loud voice, “Stand upright on your feet.” And he sprang up and began walking. And when the crowds saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in Lycaonian, “The gods have come down to us in the likeness of men!” Barnabas they called Zeus, and Paul, Hermes, because he was the chief speaker. And the priest of Zeus, whose temple was at the entrance to the city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates and wanted to offer sacrifice with the crowds. But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of it, they tore their garments and rushed out into the crowd, crying out, “Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men, of like nature with you, and we bring you good news, that you should turn from these vain things to a living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all that is in them. In past generations he allowed all the nations to walk in their own ways. Yet he did not leave himself without witness, for he did good by giving you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness.” Even with these words they scarcely restrained the people from offering sacrifice to them.” Stay focused on Christ as the example and we'll have a sure foundation. Don't elevate any person in your mind as any substitute for Christ. Author Leigh 87
I absolutely agree with you (when do I not ? ) I would still like to know how Leigh ended up getting home that night, and whether the wallet was in the friend's house or Andrew's truck. Leigh?? Sorry, I meant we both went to a friends house; I had a plastic bag full of beer that I brought the guys, and accidentalyl threw my wallet in there, rather than my handbag I was carrying. We both went to our separate vehicles, said goodbye (they were parked about 10 metres away from each other), and started driving. I then realised I had left my wallet in that plastic bag. I rememberd. Unfrotunately, I also had run out of gas, with no money, and a flat phone (probably one of the only instances it is flat. I am llooking for work and it is ALWAYS charged in anticipation for phone calls). The lady at the gas station had NO empathy. She literally threw up her hands and said "oh well (wiith a BIG SMILE!) " Luckily for me, the FIRST person I askd for help, helped me (a truck driver), and lent me 5 dollars, JUST enough to get home. ............The stupid gas lady saw my try to put fuel in the car and stopped the pumps, as she THOUGHT I WAS STEALING. She came out when I wouldn't stop trying, and said "how do you think your going to get home young lady" I said " a NICE person LENT me the money, thanks, so can you please put the petrol back on so I can use the gas, which I will PAY for" I DON'T STEAL. grr. So I just drove home. Had I walked, Andrew might have seen me, as he would have been driving his big truck down the same road that I was walking; the WORST case scenario would have been him missing me, and driving all the way to my place, waiting half hour, freaking out and then driving back along the road to find me. I am glad you are ok. I really wish you had met another Christian who did take Jesus' teachings seriously and helped you and showed you love and mercy! It is good that you realize that this lady who you met is not the sole representative of Christians in the world. There are many Christians who would have helped you had they known your predicament, including me if I had been there. Your thread is a great reminder to Christians to make sure to do what Jesus says, which includes loving and helping people! Author Leigh 87
According to you the worst case scenario would have been you being raped and murdered. Sounds like maybe in hindsight you were maybe pissed too much(rightly so) to see things objectively. So the woman's impression of you factored into her decision...seems reasonable considering her line of work. Stop trying to fight against everthing I say. It makes you look back, as though regardless of what i say, you do not like me much anyway and won't put anything positive even if you think it. And no, I did not act in a way that would have made the majority of people think I am dubious of character. I am very sweet, softly spoken, and nice in real life. I was scared and told her my predicament, as though i was scared, but crazyily angry or irate.
