Positive Quotes and Thoughts

Recommended Posts

One simple quote has "helped" me in many different situations, and it has made me stop and enjoy the moment.

"This Too Shall Pass."

During the times in my life when everything seemed uncertain to the times when everything seemed perfect, this quote made me think about the moment or look forward to better times.

When life was filled with depression or when life was full of happiness, this saying kept the realization that time does not stand still.

From those days when the babies were crying and life seemed incredibly chaotic to the times when they were all smiles and filled with happiness, this quote has kept me from going crazy...or ignoring the moment.

During the times when the house seemed filled with angry shouts and tears of frustration to the times when the house was filled with smiles and laughter, this simple saying kept me going or made me stop and enjoy.

During the many times when I felt like leaving my marriage due to a lack of something to the times when my wife's smile and love-filled eyes filled my heart with love, this quote has made me realize that time cannot be replayed.

So simple and yet so important. :)

"I don't believe there is a power in the 'verse that can stop Kaylee from being cheerful. Sometimes you just want to duct tape her mouth and dump her in the hold for a month."

“There is joy in self-forgetfulness. So I try to make the light in others' eyes my sun, the music in others' ears my symphony, the smile on others' lips my happiness.”

I think for the most part, we're good people. I mean, we're not always compatible or on the same page as to what we want from each other, and that causes hurt because we are emotional beings.

But it doesn't mean that we're inherently bad. I think people do things to hurt each other out of hurt themselves, it's impulsive, but they end up regretting their actions if they truly are good people.

Another deep thought I had this evening :)

I've shared this before, and am always happy to share it again and again!

The Invitation

By Oriah

It doesn’t interest me

what you do for a living.

I want to know

what you ache for

and if you dare to dream

of meeting your heart’s longing.

It doesn’t interest me

how old you are.

I want to know

if you will risk

looking like a fool

for love

for your dream

for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn’t interest me

what planets are

squaring your moon...

I want to know

if you have touched

the centre of your own sorrow

if you have been opened

by life’s betrayals

or have become shrivelled and closed

from fear of further pain.

I want to know

if you can sit with pain

mine or your own

without moving to hide it

or fade it

or fix it.

I want to know

if you can be with joy

mine or your own

if you can dance with wildness

and let the ecstasy fill you

to the tips of your fingers and toes

without cautioning us

to be careful

to be realistic

to remember the limitations

of being human.

It doesn’t interest me

if the story you are telling me

is true.

I want to know if you can

disappoint another

to be true to yourself.

If you can bear

the accusation of betrayal

and not betray your own soul.

If you can be faithless

and therefore trustworthy.

I want to know if you can see Beauty

even when it is not pretty

every day.

And if you can source your own life

from its presence.

I want to know

if you can live with failure

yours and mine

and still stand at the edge of the lake

and shout to the silver of the full moon,

“Yes.”

It doesn’t interest me

to know where you live

or how much money you have.

I want to know if you can get up

after the night of grief and despair

weary and bruised to the bone

and do what needs to be done

to feed the children.

It doesn’t interest me

who you know

or how you came to be here.

I want to know if you will stand

in the centre of the fire

with me

and not shrink back.

It doesn’t interest me

where or what or with whom

you have studied.

I want to know

what sustains you

from the inside

when all else falls away.

I want to know

if you can be alone

with yourself

and if you truly like

the company you keep

in the empty moments.

I understand the appeal of positivity toward human condition but why does it seem so necessary in today's culture? To be perfectly honest, I was saved when I admitted my badness/fallen nature, than when I had believed in my goodness but then it would be to my downfall.

I don't know that it's necessary in today's culture, this is just my own thought...but I prefer to look at people (in general) as good rather than bad. It's fine to admit you're not perfect, but personally speaking, I never dwell on the negative for too long because being positive makes my life more worthwhile and joyful. I don't push positivity on others unless asked or encouraged.

Planning to do something later is exactly the same as not doing it. Putting off joy and fulfillment until later is the same as abandoning that joy and fulfillment.

It is truly a joy to be alive, so choose to be fully alive right here and now. Live and give and work and love and experience, not someday, but this very amazing day.

Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the Pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud,

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find me, unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll,

I am the master of my fate:

I am the captain of my soul.

William Ernest Henley

I say this poem when days are tough. Makes me feel so strong. Love, love the last two lines.

"It is not in the stars to hold our destiny, but in ourselves."

- Shakespeare

Life is what we make it right? We can choose to sit at home and cry our eyes out when disappointed hits...or we can get up, go for a walk and enjoy the beauty of nature and the fact that we are blessed to be alive. Even though I sometimes feel like hiding away, I have to choose to be grateful, I don't want to waste any more time feeling bad. And with that idea:

"It's astounding,

Time is fleeting."

- Riff Raff, Rocky Horror Picture Show

A woman watches her body uneasily, as though it were an unreliable ally in the battle for love.

- Leonard Cohen

This quote reminds me that I don't have to be "perfect"** to find love. :)

**whatever that means!

Don't cry when the sun is gone, for the tears won't let you see the stars.

Everybody's got a past. The past does not equal the future unless you live there.

~ Tony Robbins

Holding on is believing there is only a past. Letting go is believing that there is a future.

~ Daphne Rose Kingma

We must be willing to let go of the life we had planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us.

~ Joseph Campbell

I came across these quotes today, got me thinking about moving on from the breakup and how happy I am today that I chose to take every action possible to be positive, happy and confident. I'm doing great with no regrets, in fact, kind of grateful that it happened - not the way it did, but that it's over. :)

Expect the best of yourself. Then find a way to exceed those expectations.

No matter what you’ve done before, today is your opportunity to exceed yourself. Where you are is not a place to rest indefinitely, but rather a place from which to move forward.

Challenge yourself to exceed yourself. You deserve the best, and you deserve to keep making the best even better and better.

— Ralph Marston
