The nihilst chick
I believe not that we are born sinful or there is a divine creator a devil etc. I believe more and more that our egos are the problem. It is the voice that brags about your achievements etc and will turn around and remind you of how worthless you are. It feeds of praise and blame from others. It needs attention like a child. When you feel superior thats your ego when you feel inferior thats your ego. It is not you just what others say of you. Getting rid of the ego is hard. It starts from when we are young ur parents gush about how beautiful you are and then when u get older they get more critical. Your ego feels attacked angry but it feeds of others as it needs a host like a parasite. Being calm in presence of love and hate towards you is key. Do not cling to it nor turn away. Just let it be. So what do you think?

So what do you think? I had a few nihilist friends back in college. I am very familiar with the philosophy. I remember being impressed by the honesty and sincerity of one particular nihilist. He said something which I will never forget. He said he is a fraud of a nihilist because any real nihilist--he said--would actually committ suicide. You have discovered a truth that even most Christians haven't: humanity really is radically depraved and self-centered. You are correct about egos. That is the problem. Even Jesus Christ agreed. He repeatedly talked about "denying the self". But I would disagree with you about the solution or action that needs to be taken. This realization should lead us to Jesus, himself, since he really is the only solution. No man or woman can solve their own ego or sin. Nobody.

So what do you think? i think people shoudl be who they are, that's how god created them I think humility is important like i believe confidence is important to get things done.....we are all children of god....and god actually wants us to stand up and be counted to fiercely protect and defend what is right and just, you can be calm and confident adn promote that. If you have seen faces of hate though.....unless you are a zen master....you will not be calm..... you can front it though, appear calm........and that is confidence that puts you there....shaking on the inside but steady on the outside...i actually think its god who holds you up gives that strength when you want to run......in the true faces of hate.......unless you are a true psycho you cannot not be affected We are not jesus christ...god accepts our imperfections including times of self pride, and our failings our mistakes. What is more important is we don't judge others, we never give up through hate or through love the whole life experience we keep moving and learning as we go......endurance and accepting that not one human is perfect.Asking for forgiveness when we do get snotty or we fall short...we will always be forgiven....that is to me the grace of god....he forgives...everything if we ask him too forgive us because he loves us.......deb
Author The nihilst chick
I disagree you do not Jesus to get rid of the ego. If anything religion fuels it saying a god cares about you if your a muslim jew catholic etc you are right others are wrong. The ego feeds on blame and insult. As for the nihilsm thing i just feel nihilst about things cynical even. You die and all that work etc was for nonthing. I consider myself a atheist and i admire Buddhism. I even want to be a nun or laywoman at least in a temple. Humans have been taught they are special by religion, books etc they will get heaven if they are good. No you are insignificant. The universe will keep on expanding as humans harm themselves mind and body. I am no better than them i am just as ill. Cept i see that. A guy online said it very well ...humanity will choke on its filth.

I strongly believe in many parts of Buddhism. "Find your own salvation." God cant do it , Jesus, mom or dad. You must save yourself and for many thats hard to take. I think for me to get rid of the ego i would have to retire from the world some years as a Buddhist nun until i learn to stop clinging and avoiding just letting it be and letting go. If god exists, i would love to know why was he foolish enough to create humans. Why punish everyone for their ancestors crime and why does hs sit back and watch humans suffer and cause pain to others.God isnt reliable at all.

mercy
The ego is your enemy, not your friend. It is the ego that gives you wounds and hurts you. It is the ego that makes you violent, angry, jealous, competitive. It is the ego that is continuously comparing and feeling miserable. - Osho Sever the chains of the ego. Set yourself free and witness the bright essence of your inner being. Discover within your heart the wisdom of a prophet without books, without teachers, and without prudence. Author The nihilst chick
This sums up the ego well. In Theravada buddhism one of the 3 truths are lack of self which is confusing because i identify with so many things see them as part of me. What do you have to say about the lack of self concept? I think once you put away the whole right wrong black white us they thing and see that we are driven by 2 things desire and hatred as Buddhism says, you understand why humans suffer. I know its crazy but understanding that i am not as harsh with psychos like Osama and Hitler. What they did was evil but i see them less as demons and more like a side of me or in all of us. The side that doesnt care about people, the side we supress. I am not superior to them no one is not more moral. i just along with others chose to supress my hate and let in through in more subtle ways if that makes sense. I hope you dont think i am loco. Author The nihilst chick
Humans wouldnt need the ego to live. If we saw everyone as equals there wouldnt be such pain. Humans either need to die or change our ways. And that includes me i am part of the problem too.

TheFinalWord
What do you know about Jesus? Where are you getting your information from? And he [Jesus] said to all, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me." (Luke 9:23 ESV) Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. (Philippians 2:3) Just to add... "We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that his life may also be revealed in our mortal body. So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you." Christ gave His own life, and His Glory in heaven for us, much greater than any human being... "The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father...Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends." "Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross."
