To date or not to date?

I met this girl last year through mutual friends. We didn't talk much in the beginning because I wasn't interested in any relationship. However, throughout the year I began to notice how wonderful of a person she was. I began talking to her and just getting to know her. I think at first she was a little stand offish but later warmed up to me. Every time I would run into her I would stop to say hi and catch up. Any time I would call her or text her she would always answer and talk about anything pretty much. I went to Europe for the summer and we kept in touch through FB messages. When I returned we continued where we left off. Ever since I've hung out with her a few times going on hikes and we play on the same soccer team. When I think about asking her out I can't help to think where this would end up. She is going to study abroad for a year and I will be graduating this Spring. I don't know exactly where I will end up. I just don't want it to be a short term relationship. I know I need to talk to her about what she thinks but how should I approach it? What do ya'll think I should do? Should I wait until later or just do it and see what happens?
