I want to Put on A LOT of Muscle...

Recommended Posts

I'm a guy, and as a kid i always wanted to be a real muscular guy, and started doing all kinds of exercises at ages 14-18, but the improvement was very poor and had trouble putting on weight. I was dissapointed as my goal was to weigh around 200 pounds at least (over 14 stone), as i took it very seriously.

However, i got over it and wasn't bothered about it any more. Until this year, at 20, i decided to bulk up on my thighs, because they were too skinny looking, and started trying to do the splits and using stretching exercises. This time it worked, and i'm still trying to give them that chunky, muscular look.

But then i realised, that my body was becoming disproportionate, as i looked more built up in my legs than my upperbody and everything else.

That made me think to have another go at bulking my body up good bit. I recently started straining my bisceps, chest and stomach and i think it's working. If it does work, i want to keep going and strive to put on a few stone to have that body i've always wanted. My body just seems more reactive now and it's not too late.

Even when i wasn't bothered about body building, i felt awkard about wearing T-shirts or thin layers as my arms look bony and too little muscle, and my chest isn't too impressive either. If i was in a hot country, i would not want to show off my body, but i dream of having that muscular body and showing it off.

My legs now look more respectable looking, but still have a most weak chest and arms.

The last time i weighed myself, i was something like 144 or 145 pounds. I'm just under 6 foot, like 5 foot 10 or 5 foot 11 (over 10 stone). My ideal scenario would be to put on 55 pounds and i would like to see a big change in my body by the end of the year.

Maybe the trouble is putting on fat, as my weight didn't go up or down in these adult years.. it would be stable.

The thing is, my body right now has a really good base to work on as i do have an emerging six-pack, and if i keep gaining weight i would have a very attractive body to go with my pretty face. I am doing this for myself you know.

Is it possible that i could go from skinny to muscular frame in a good number of months? I do eat more than i look, but it's usually junk food. I don't eat fruit, but i eat vegetables. I'm usually eating chicken. However, i do drink lots of milk. I would definetely feel happier with my desired body.

Clive,

I will tell you what worked for me. A few years ago I was around 150 lbs, now I am approximately 190lbs--within 5 years. You must cut down on the junk food because it is wasted calories. You must eat more protein. I like to make a few dishes to help me bulk up and I am not a big muscle head either. Some of the food that will help you:

--chicken breast;

--ground turkey chili with chopped onions, green peppers, kidney beans, and diced tomatoes, cheese;

--pasta, chicken pasta, pasta with sauce, potatoes

--turkey breast, turkey burgers.

--garden burgers

Plus, you will need to gradually increase your weight training techniques to include a variety of work outs--so you can build muscle rapidly.

Speed walking is good because it doesn't destroy your knees like jogging or running would. It will help you burn calories and hopefully make you hungry so you can eat more ....chicken, pasta, turkey, etc.

I'm no expert but what I have done has helped me. Hopefully, it can help you.

Thanks alot Fundamental! I will definetely try to change my eating habits!

It's just that i've always had a problem gaining weight in muscle. Just recently, after starting my serious attempt to bulk up, i went to see how much i weighed, but there was not much change, but i was thinking that my weight has increased a little, as it seemed to be a little further over the 10 stone mark.

If i'm right, then i've put on 1/2 pound- 1 1/2 pounds. It should be working as i can see a change in my body. However, there's been time where i think i've put on some weight, but then through time nothing changes. So it's still early days.

Hopefully, i'll update you on this situation.

Clive,

Also, putting on muscle without protein shakes, weight gainining pills and juices will take a little longer but at least it will be natural. I never use weight gainer shakes because I don't trust the ingredients. So, don't expect to gain 30 pounds in a month. I will take time. Once you start to gain weight and see improvements, you will become addicted...lol.

Ok take it easy, hope it works.

"weight gainers" are pure crap. They're just a whey blend with high-glycemic carbs.

I would use some sort of low fat/low carb protein powder either before or after weight training though.

Nothing to do with fast or slow building of the muscle, it's just a way to get a large amino profile into your blood stream to be used by the tissue being worked.

Months? 48 months, maybe.

I really like what fundamental's said about speed walking (good on knees), but it doesn't build bulk. You'd better stay away from it, unless only a very short time necessary as a warmup. He's right about the timeline. Unless you've got extrordinay genetic material (Schwartznegger) and hormone shots (which I hope you'r smart enough to avoid), it ain't gonna happen in just a few months.

Also liked what wideawake says about "weight gainers." CRAP! Fundamental's diet's good.

You body type is what Arnold would call "Ectomorph," a really polite way to say "skinny," It sounds like Fundamental started at about the same weight you're at now, but I'm not sure what age he began to gain and his genetics.

Frankly, you gotta be careful with what I'm gonna suggest dude, 'cause you could really hurt yourself..................HIT...............High Intesity Training...............have someone who knows what they're doin' help you with this: Heavy weights, low reps workout (lots on the web about it). This will release more natural testosterone into your system (particularly HIT on major groups: Back, Chest, and especially Legs, i.e. Squats) allowing faster larger growth spurts.

BE VERY CAREFUL AND DON"T HURT YOURSELF.

Good point Samson.

Clive - Do a search on here for a guy named "Ryan". He was a huge H.T.T. fan and he gave a ton of good advise on how to use this system of weight training, including some routines for you to try.
