This is a popular topic among youtube athiests :)

Pretty interesting. Inmendham is probably the guru on this topic:

The moment a couple decides to procreate, on an unconscious level, our body starts gathering the cream of our genetic crop-if you will, to put it's best foot forward. Once the actual conception takes place inside the woman, absolutely every variable the woman experiences, is experienced in the new being. emotions;anger/violence will cause stress.. Along with malnutrition in the form of poor (even if unknowingly poor) diets, and all the toxins one encounters in their environment.

Yep.

The first steps, or foundation, in anything is the most important part of anything. From buildings to ideas, and baby human beings too.
True.

When I am ready, and have found someone worth sharing my life with, and procreating, we will be going to Hawaii to cruise and do our deeds. to pop out a few babies. But, not before relaxing, getting in the best shape we can (mentally, physically, emotionally,) and detoxing. Then focusing on our love and connection together and culminating in as much sex as we can muster :D And also being there through all the terms of pregnancy and until the children are of a decent enough age to go somewhere else.

^^^^^ that's just the hippy in me, and what I've come to learn.

That is awesome!!! That is the plan that my husband and I have (except for going to Hawaii and on a cruise) but wow, great summary! It is so important for love to be a part of the process!!! :bunny:

So in adopting you're not getting anything good, or as good, as can be made. Those first few steps in nature/nurture are the most important and will set the pace for their entire future.
Ok, see, I disagree but that's because I believe all humans = good. (And yes I know many Christians generally consider all humans to be sinners but still, I don't believe that a baby in the womb has done anything bad... nor a tiny little human outside of the womb who depends on her/his parents for protection, provision, care, and education.)

However, sad to say, many humans are victims (not by anything they have personally done) of the bad choices of other people, namely their parents. :( Is that the children's fault? Nope! They shouldn't be punished for it.

So to me, adopting orphans is important because it gives them the opportunity to grow in a loving and healthy environment IF the caregivers are good.

Also, as a Judeo-Christian, helping orphans is basically commanded: I boldened some of the verses below. Now, the Scriptures do not say to adopt, but basically it's important to help the orphans and the widows and the foreigners and those in need!

Deuteronomy 14

Deuteronomy 14 NIV - Clean and Unclean Food - You are the - Bible Gateway

"28 At the end of every three years, bring all the tithes of that year’s produce and store it in your towns,29 so that the Levites (who have no allotment or inheritance of their own) and the foreigners, the fatherless and the widows who live in your towns may come and eat and be satisfied, and so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands.

Deuteronomy 24

Deuteronomy 24 NIV - If a man marries a woman who becomes - Bible Gateway

"19 When you are harvesting in your field and you overlook a sheaf, do not go back to get it. Leave it for the foreigner, the fatherless and the widow, so that the Lord your God may bless you in all the work of your hands. 20 When you beat the olives from your trees, do not go over the branches a second time. Leave what remains for the foreigner, the fatherless and the widow. 21 When you harvest the grapes in your vineyard, do not go over the vines again. Leave what remains for the foreigner, the fatherless and the widow.22 Remember that you were slaves in Egypt. That is why I command you to do this."

Isaiah 1

Isaiah 1 NIV - The vision concerning Judah and - Bible Gateway

"16 Wash and make yourselves clean.

Take your evil deeds out of my sight;

stop doing wrong.

17 Learn to do right; seek justice.

Defend the oppressed.[a]

Take up the cause of the fatherless;

plead the case of the widow."

James 1

James 1 NIV - James, a servant of God and of the Lord - Bible Gateway

"26 Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless. 27Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."

I don't like the idea of picking up a grab bag of genetic deficiencies as well as predisposed crap due to highly stressed pregnancy (which any baby given up for adoption will have surely gone through.)

I refuse to believe that any child is "a grab bag of genetic deficiencies." However, it is true that many children sadly experience genetic deficiencies. However, that does not make them crappy at all. It just means they are human, like all of us.

Jesus makes it clear that children are very precious in the sight of God. Many Christians believe that all children are precious in God's sight, no matter their genetic deficiencies (which is not in their control) nor how they were conceived. Jesus stressed caring for children and not causing them to stumble (in Matthew 18). I personally believe Jesus cares for each and every child no matter what and desires for people to care for children, protect them from harm, and nurture and bless them.

One of my most favorite passages in the Bible is this one:

Matthew 18

Matthew 18 NIV - The Greatest in the Kingdom of Heaven - Bible Gateway

"10 “See that you do not despise one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven. [11] [a]

12 “What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? 13 And if he finds it, truly I tell you, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. 14 In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should perish."

Children are "little ones," no matter their DNA or how they were conceived or what mistakes their parents made/make. :)

Just a hunch, but I think she's referring to the state of the earth prior to humans polluting, levelling, and otherwise interfering with it.

Pollution? How do we measure pollution? Because you know, for instance, the amount of oxygen has always varied greatly in Earth's history.

If people wanna have children, they should max have 2....enough to replace themselves so to speak. People who have 5, 6, + kids literally turn my stomach.

People are not thinking about global warming, habitat destruction etc. It is just me me me me. And i fear that by the time we realize how serious this is it will be too late.

Hi

I found VHEMT by mistake a few years ago. (around 3 years I believe)

I read everything on the website and I realized that it is everything I've been thinking about since I was a child. It was quite nice to see that I'm not alone and there are people who believe the same thing I do.

It's pretty hard to explain because for me everything just makes perfect sense, I cannot understand how can anybody live in this world and not come to the same conclusion. One of the hardest things is to explain the obvious.

I guess the main reason it is because I love all the animals on this planet and I don't believe that they all have to suffer or have to be destroyed just for one other specie to multiply ad infinitum.

i agree with u i think the only way that vhemt wouldnt be needed is if humans got of their high horse we r just hairless apes animals.sure we have iphones etc but the animals r wiser.they take only what they need while humans spread one place to another like cancer.like agent smith said "humans are a virus."

Not really.. the past 100 years have very quantifiable. There are observatories on the Big Island of Hawaii where NOAA measures particulates in the air. That's actually where they curve the rest of the world's Oxygen off of. I used to check on my equipment up there, and they have a few bronze charts as a historical reference and future guess as to a few forms of pollution, and ... that thing looks a like a well-to-do stock, with no stop in sight.

100 years? Let's talk millennia. Earth has always varied greatly. Sure, we pollute it. At one point there were trees everywhere, at another there were none. There is no such thing as a pure Earth.

I agree with this. As humans have evolved and grown and expanded around this earth it's become a "me me me" society as you said.

I compare humans on this planet, to cockroaches in an apartment building. We breed unnecessarily, families that continue to pop out children make me sick. Government is corrupt, religion has become corrupt, business men are corrupt.

You see children being raped, sold, mutilated. You see the elderly abused by their caretakers, you see battered women (and sometimes men).

There are wars, and hatred, intolerance, and ignorance. There is waste, and greed, and excess.

We as a whole have made extinct some of the most beautiful animals for wealth. Most people don't give a s.hit about anything other than themselves, I see people spit, piss, and throw garbage wherever they please.

I see the poor mother who lost two beautiful sons in hurricane Sandy because no one opened their door to help her.

We are SICK. We are SELFISH. We are a diseased and broken species, and I pray to GOD we wipe ourselves off this planet. We do not "rule" this planet as I've seen someone say. We are destroying it. We have demolished, ruined, and caused irreversible damage to this planet. We do not help it thrive, we do not respect other species who also call the blue planet home.

Everything about humans makes me sick. From how we treat each other, how we treat the planet, how we make excuses for it, and how others live by burying their heads in the sand.

I'm sure by the time this planet is ruined, our "highly intelligent" species will have a way of migrating and landing on other planets, and inhabiting and destroying them.

I wish a meteor would just come wipe us off like it did the dinosaurs. Seriously. I'm not proud to call myself human. I'm disgusted every time I turn on the news.

Basically people who wish for humans to stop having babies so our population will decrease and earth will return to its former glory. They do not want goverment to force extinction on us or to enforce birth control as chin hence its called VOLUNTARY human extinction. I read another article in which scientists say our population is too large for birth control condoms efc to help two billion of humans will have to die or our population will triple before the end of the century and little resources will be around.

The wesbite for VHEMT is VHEMT. What do you think?

I just find this so interesting, because I thought the exact same way at 14. And this has gotten me thinking.

I've especially been thinking about young teen moms. As young teens, our bodies can have children, so it's usually a concept that girls think about. But, more often than not, we completely lack the perspective to really understand the significance of creating life, or the desire to immortalize.

As you get older though, you may be as surprised as I am, that our biological clocks really are a powerful thing! I know it has shocked me to have a change of heart, as in the past I felt so differently.

Not that I'm trying to get you to change your mind at all!!! More power to you Tnc. I've just been reflecting on my own journey :)

Where I live it's a ****hole. there used to be 7 skyscrapers full of people. Now they have knocked them down and replaced them with a few houses.

What happened to all the people that lived in them? Dunno.

But there are less people where i live now...an the place is still a ****hole with more food cheaper than ever.

the way i see it is that It's ok to volunteer to stop making babies, but it won't change the nature of the beast;)

Actually you bring up a good point. While the mentality of an entire society is very hard to change, we can all try one person at the time. You saw one good change from the fact that there are now less people where you live.

"Less people more food cheaper than ever. "

Think what would happen on a larger scale if there are less people.

Everyone and every living thing on this planet will benefit from an improved human population density. The promise of abundant living will once again be more than wishful thinking.

Shortages of resources are caused by longages of consumers, so the fewer we number, the greater our material wealth could be.

Conflicts arise primarily out of resource shortages, so peace becomes more likely with fewer people occupying the same lands and drawing from the same wells.

Children will be more respected and better cared for as there are fewer of them. The appalling numbers of children dying today could be reduced to an ugly page in the history books.

Housing will become plentiful without building more houses. A sustainable civilization will be possible when we stop taking more than is being regenerated by Nature.

Naturally, Nature stands to gain even more in the long run by a phase-out of the human species. As fewer people inhabit an area, less damage is done to wildlife’s habitat. Restoration will be possible when cities shrink and green spaces are expanded. Eventually, extinctions will become less common as habitat is restored and preserved for wildlife.

Sounds like paradise, doesn’t it?

i'm a proud permaculture lover and agree with most of the ethics

i have no talent for figures, but according to this guy the world is not overpopulated, check this out...

The Overpopulation Myth

Here is the comment I put on their website: (I don't think they are actually going to post it)

It seems that no matter what mathematical formula we use the World Population is increasing, not decreasing.

Take a look at this:

World clock

World Population Clock: 7 Billion People - Worldometers

1 200 million

1804 1 billion

1927 2 billion

1960 3 billion

1975 4 billion

1987 5 billion

1999 6 billion

2011 7 billion

2025 8 billion

2045 9 billion

The amount of land we actually use is called our ecological footprint. An average US resident uses 20 acres due to our luxurious lifestyles. We could reduce it to four acres by reducing our standard of living to one fifth of what it is now. http://www.footprintnetwork.org/en/index.php/GFN/page/footprint_for_nations/

Another consideration: humans now use an area the size of South America for agriculture. Growing Skyscrapers: The Rise of Vertical Farms: Scientific American

If our population size increases as extrapolated by the UN, we'll need to double food production by 2050. UN Calls for Doubling Food Production

This will need to be done on less land as desertification, salinization, topsoil loss, soil exhaustion, and urban sprawl diminish available farmland.

Industrial agriculture has been running on performance-enhancing drugs, which reduce productivity in the long run. FOOD FOR HUMANITY

"Forced to choose between limiting population or trying to increase food production, we chose the latter and ended up with starvation, warfare, and tyranny." The Worst Mistake In The History Of The Human Race by Jared Diamond

i had heard of eastern island- tragic. There is a quote my living environment teacher shared said by a Creek Indian, " Only when the last tree has been cut,the last fish has been caught, and the last river has been poisoned will man realize he cannot eat money." People dont take global warming and environmental issues seriously.

It's funny that you mentioned that quote. I actually have it posted at my desk at work. :)

The other people usually have photos with their children all over their desk. I have that quote and a cartoon that I really like. It goes something like this:

***A woman goes to a fortune teller to ask her about the future.

The fortune teller says: "I see a time when peace shall reign throughout the world"

The woman says: "I bet the people are happy".

The fortune teller: "I don't see any people". ***

I'm glad there are still a few people out there with an open mind that are actually trying to understand the world we are living in instead of just following the crowd.

So I'll be glad to answer any other questions that you might have.

I only check my email once every one or two weeks, but I'll get to it sooner or later.

I wish you all the best!
