Good timing.

I am about to be done where I am. The good thing is now I am done and will have an advanced degree with all the opportunity that implies, which will take me to great places professionally. If I am willing to work for that.

The problem is that profession means spending a long time going from one contract position to another about every two years.

Now at my moment of triumph I find myself not only alone romantically but in a position where I would've had to leave anyone I was with (or be in a LDR which unless the people in it are really strong can be difficult.)

I am in search of good timing. Is there any way to make the timing good, should I forgo rapid career advancement just try to stay put with a less impressive job and build more of a personal life?

Really No suggestions? No one else who has wrestled with the choice of wanting to advance their career at any expense Vs. their personal needs?

I don't have any personal experience, but I've been around a few people with similar situations. One of my professors right now is married to a man who is gone all week, every week because of work. So she's left all week with their two kids. I guess they've been doing this since before kids as well.

Obviously it's tough to ignore the personal life, but I would say go for the professional advancement. It's harder to build a great professional resume, and takes longer. Who knows, maybe you'll meet someone along the way whose line of work allow her to move with you.

You don't want to live for someone but for yourself first. You worked hard to be where you are, giving it for any random person who will come and go will prove to be detrimental because it will eventually lead to regret.

Get a job you love and once you are settled, find someone who can comply with your busy schedule.

Interesting advice so far. Though there is no one I would say... give up the chance to be an astronaut for...I'm just asking.
