BetheButterfly
Hello I really like some of the Proverbs. Some are funny to me. However, there is truth in them. Also, I firmly believe they can be about men too... just switch the gender to man/husband and the truth stays the same!!! Proverbs 5 Proverbs 5 NIV - Warning Against Adultery - My son, pay - Bible Gateway "18 May your fountain be blessed, and may you rejoice in the wife of your youth. 19 A loving doe, a graceful deer— may her breasts satisfy you always, may you ever be intoxicated with her love. 20 Why, my son, be intoxicated with another man’s wife? Why embrace the bosom of a wayward woman?" Proverbs 11 Proverbs 11 NIV - The LORD detests dishonest scales, but - Bible Gateway "16 A kindhearted woman gains honor, but ruthless men gain only wealth. 17 Those who are kind benefit themselves, but the cruel bring ruin on themselves." Proverbs 12 Proverbs 12 NIV - Whoever loves discipline loves - Bible Gateway "4 A wife of noble character is her husband’s crown, but a disgraceful wife is like decay in his bones." ... 10 The righteous care for the needs of their animals, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel. Proverbs 18 Proverbs 18 NIV - An unfriendly person pursues selfish - Bible Gateway "22 He who finds a wife finds what is good and receives favor from the Lord." Proverbs 19 (I think this one is funny though true, and yeah in all of these, is true for both husbands and wives!) Proverbs 19 NIV - Better the poor whose walk is blameless - Bible Gateway "13 A foolish child is a father’s ruin, and a quarrelsome wife is like the constant dripping of a leaky roof. 14 Houses and wealth are inherited from parents, but a prudent wife is from the Lord." Proverbs 21:9 Proverbs 21 NIV - In the LORD "9 Better to live on a corner of the roof than share a house with a quarrelsome wife." ... "19 Better to live in a desert than with a quarrelsome and nagging wife." Proverbs 27 Proverbs 27 NIV - Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do - Bible Gateway "15 A quarrelsome wife is like the dripping of a leaky roof in a rainstorm; 16 restraining her is like restraining the wind or grasping oil with the hand." Proverbs 31 Proverbs 31 NIV - Sayings of King Lemuel - The sayings of - Bible Gateway "10 [b]A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. 11 Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. 12 She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life. 13 She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands. 14 She is like the merchant ships, bringing her food from afar. 15 She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family and portions for her female servants. 16 She considers a field and buys it; out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. 17 She sets about her work vigorously; her arms are strong for her tasks. 18 She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night. 19 In her hand she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers. 20 She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy. 21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet. 22 She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple. 23 Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land. 24 She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies the merchants with sashes. 25 She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. 26 She speaks with wisdom, and faithful instruction is on her tongue. 27 She watches over the affairs of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness. 28 Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: 29 “Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all.” 30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised. 31 Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate." What do you think about these proverbs? To me, they inspire me as to what not to do, and also what I need to do!
M30USA
Summary of above verses: A wife can either enrich your life with joy and companionship, or make your life a living hell. (I guess the same applies to husbands, too.) Edited November 7, 2012 by M30USA
