mell21
I deactivated my facebook over a year ago, and it was a great decision. I was tired of everyones bull**** and people constantly talking about the stupid details of their life I don't care about. I just got tired of it and it's been gone for a year and I don't even miss it.
robaday
I deactivated mine yesterday.....no idea how its going to go. What Im trying to get away from is the fact that I am struggling from a breakup and lacking confidence so I really want to live in the real world "reality", by forcing myself to be sociable in real life. Force myself to talk to real people, rather than go home and use that all day..... Ill wait and see how long I can last!
Teknoe
I've been seriously pondering about deleting my FB. I'm 29... and the older I get, the more I realize I'm just a simple guy who enjoys staying home. All my "friends" (that I barely talk with anyway) constantly post family updates, having a baby, getting married, engaged, into a relationship, etc. Sorry to sound bitter here but do I care? Not really. A couple years ago I was into it but now I value my privacy. I just might delete it. If someone really needs to reach me, they can do it via phone or email. ooglesnboogles
I've left mine intact because it's a good way to talk to a few family members. Otherwise, I rarely use it. I don't talk to friends on there because if I'm actually friends with them I have a number and can text/call them. I don't post many things, partially because I don't have a lot of pictures with me in them. I've been thinking about deleting it, but then remember that I have a lot of links and fun stuff on there from a few years ago that I like to go back and look at. Stuff that I sent to other people. I think I've got 80-90 'friends' on there, most probably don't see my feed anyway, and it's all pretty locked down in 'Private Mode' so I guess I'll leave it up. Nothing bad on there anyway, though I probably wouldn't volunteer my FaceBook info to an employer without a court ordered warrant, simply because I enjoy exercising my 4th Amendment rights. I heard of HR folks asking interviewees to log in to their Facebook accounts so private things that would pass under the radar could be viewed. I'm pretty the ACLU went bat**** on that one, rightfully so.
Taramere
I also didn't want to go through the drama of defriending a bunch of people, so I decided to take myself out of the equation altogether. Honestly, a part of me feels very liberated at this point. Anyone else make the decision to get off Fakebook? I've deactivated it a couple of times, but ultimately I find it a useful thing for staying in touch. I'd always sworn I would never defriend people, but then I went ahead and did so several weeks back. I use the privacy settings. At the moment I don't use a picture of myself on the profile and haven't for a long time, I don't have a wall etc. Still I'll periodically get weird friend requests from men I don't know who have nothing but women on their friends lists. There's always something dodgy about that...like they've made up a profile, made up a glamorous looking friends list and are sending it out to women in the hopes that the glamorous friends will provide some sort of "social proof". I'm not sure what kind of scam it would be, or how they get hold of specific names, but it bothers me a bit. I don't like the loss of privacy Facebook creates, nor the way they'll tend to use people's profiles for advertising purposes...but I tend to think as long as my profile's fairly private, pics are limited and I'm not accepting friend requests from total randoms who might not even be real people, no particular harm comes from using it.
