Leigh 87
RANT. So, there is this "bikini Body Challenge" that a very clever personal trainer has marketed, that has been extremely successfull! I commend her for sharing her clean eating tips and fitness advice and conducting boot camps, with such passion and helping all types of women out. She is probably lovely. But UGH!!!!!!! She also happebns to be thin, tanned, huge breasts, long hair, and is a Victoria Secret model look alike. You know, she is always RIDICULOUSLY, RIDICULOUSLY good looking, oiled up, super tanned, and TOTALLY UNREALSTIC in her image. ..It is BAD ENOUGH the media uses mostly models, or good looking petite women in movies and magazines (albiet some mags DO use "real" sized women, that are not all the stero type of attractive) But to use a model in a campaign for health and fitness is SO NOT HEALTHY. In fact, I would go as far to say it IS SICK. While her programme has helped thousands of women, I feel it is totally irresponsible and perpetuates eating disorders and low self esteem, when the whole program uses a MODEL in all its pictures. ...NO ONE will end up looking like her, not only is her large breasts and thin body not attainable by MOST women (she actually has the EXACT same body type as me) but SHE IS A FREAKIN MODEL. NO ONE LOOKS LIKE HER. She is hte top 2% of the bloody population. ..As a person who had anorexia and finds herself unattractive, she is NOT to blame for my views, but man, it would be much more healthy and realistic and HELPFUL to ALL women, if they used REALISTIC women in adds for fitness programs! Sure, they do not want an unattractive chick who is flabby in their adds, but why not use lean and fit chicks, of a variety of sizes, who are attractive but not ALL models?!!?!?!?!?!? I do not want to see sports illistrated look alikes in adds for health and wellness? It ALSO perpetuates the idea that SKIN CANCER is healthy. Seeing as she is heavily tanned, and fake tan is a nightmare to put on and afford for most women..... (although I have found the BEST natural fake tan, but I have had practice applying it^^) Rant over.
Enema
Do you often get called crazy in your everyday life?
Els
Eh, it does annoy me sometimes, but the thing is that sex (and by connotation beautiful women) sells. I can assure you that the majority of health and fitness companies are not driven by helping people become healthy. They are driven by profits, like most others. I have seen some deliberately misword and mislead people into doing things that are actually unhealthy, by preying on urban myths and unfounded beliefs to sell their products. Using a beautiful model isn't the worst of that. That being said, I do think your reaction to this is a little... over the top? You have some valid points, but you seem so incredibly angry over a health and fitness magazine being business-driven. Stuff works like this in business, Leigh. We can choose to not patronize or give profits to the companies whose methods we disdain, and then we can go on living our lives.
xxoo
I googled the name of that program. Are you talking about Ashy Bines? If so, it looks like it is her plan and her business. Why should she hire someone less attractive to promote it? Regardless, it didn't take long for me to learn that she admits to breast surgery, and that she's been on the news defending herself against accusations of running a scam.... FitChick
Well, I hate those seminars where you are told you can become wealthy by investing in real estate or commodities and the people giving the course are really rich. Who do they think they are? Why don't they have poor people telling people how to get rich?

Do you get the bit of irony in your choice to share that your body is EXACT same type as this model's in the midst of a rant about how wrong it is to use a model with a body like that in an ad campaign?
