Sun Devil
I am done with religion for good. I had mentioned in a previous post that I had prayed for a girlfriend in my life for the past 10 years. In that time, all I have gotten is false hope and watching all of my friends get girls. I have decided to abandon god and religion. I cannot imagine a loving god that would do this to someone. If there is a god, he is by far the worst monster in existance. No one can prove that he is loving. It is more realistic that he is notihng but a scam created by con artists who wanted to gain money or power. I decided to never pray again
TaraMaiden
Oh blimey, not this again. You're beginning to sound as tediously repetitive as BullN...... No matter how much people tell you it's not God's place to fix you up with a phukkable filly, it makes no difference..... Your obsessive posting about height is a dead giveaway, too. If it's not God, it's because you're short. I'd convert to Mormonism. Or Islam. Then you could have several pre-arranged marriages. you could have your cake and eat it, eat it, eat it and eat it.
TaraMaiden
I'd still be a short woman who believed in God. Oh.,... hang on......
Pompom
Good thing you let go of the deliberate self-induced delusions that is religion. Kudos to you. Welcome to the real world of science, facts, reason, and endless horizons not limited by dusty old books. However, prayer never helps, not the religious and not anyone else. Actual, own efforts work a lot better than sitting on your ass hoping/praying/dreaming.

Actual, own efforts work a lot better than sitting on your ass hoping/praying/dreaming. Actually, although I disagree (vehemently!) that prayer never helps, you do have a good point about sitting on your @ss. I believe you (general you, including myself) have to do your part as well, put in the work to make it happen. It's futile to expect to have everything you want drop in your lap as you're laying on the couch eating bonbons, no matter how much you hope & pray.
quankanne
am curious: Besides praying with fervor for a girlfriend, what have you done to help yourself as you waited for an answer?
alexandria35
Maybe instead of calling God a monster because he hasn't dropped your perfect woman in your lap, you should figure what it is about you that makes you unattractive to the opposite sex and work on that, because even if you turn your back on God, you still don't have a gf.
TheFinalWord
I am done with religion for good. I had mentioned in a previous post that I had prayed for a girlfriend in my life for the past 10 years. In that time, all I have gotten is false hope and watching all of my friends get girls. I have decided to abandon god and religion. I cannot imagine a loving god that would do this to someone. If there is a god, he is by far the worst monster in existance. No one can prove that he is loving. It is more realistic that he is notihng but a scam created by con artists who wanted to gain money or power. I decided to never pray again What kind of seed do you want to be friend? Are you so easily defeated? “Hear then the parable of the sower: When anyone hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown along the path. As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is the one who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy, yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away. As for what was sown among thorns, this is the one who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful. As for what was sown on good soil, this is the one who hears the word and understands it. He indeed bears fruit and yields, in one case a hundredfold, in another sixty, and in another thirty.” Don't give up... The Parable of the Persistent Widow And he told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not lose heart. He said, “In a certain city there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected man. And there was a widow in that city who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice against my adversary.’ For a while he refused, but afterward he said to himself, ‘Though I neither fear God nor respect man,yet because this widow keeps bothering me, I will give her justice, so that she will not beat me down by her continual coming.’” And the Lord said, “Hear what the unrighteous judge says. And will not God give justice to his elect, who cry to him day and night? Will he delay long over them? I tell you, he will give justice to them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?” Edited December 9, 2012 by TheFinalWord

Author Sun Devil
I gave up god because none of my prayers got answered. Instead my life got harder. According to Einstein, doing the same thing over and expecting different results is the definition of insanity. I no longer pray, but instead focus on reality. The truth is that religion and faith is a waste of time and effort which can be used for more useful things.
TaraMaiden
Yet another thing gone wrong.... Einstein didn't say that. The answer isn't really known but current consensus is that it came from the author Rita Mae Brown in her book Sudden Death on Pg. 68 from 1983. Quote: "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results." Most people will attribute this quote to Albert Einstein but there is no evidence to suggest that he made this statement. This quote "Insanity is repeating the same mistakes and expecting different results" appears in the Basic Text of Narcotics Anonymous which was copyrighted in 1982 and later published in 1983. It is found on page 11 of the final "Review Form" which was distributed to the fellowship in November of 1981. It is found on page 23 of the current sixth edition. From here. Not your day, is it?
Author Sun Devil
That still does not explain why I rejoined god. Why should I continue to pray to someone who only makes life harder. KathyM
That still does not explain why I rejoined god. Why should I continue to pray to someone who only makes life harder. Someone prove to me that god loves us. It is very easy to prove that he is a monster Prove to you that God loves us? How about that He took our sins upon himself and our rightful punishment through His Son, in order to be reconciled with us for all of eternity. How about the gift of eternal life that He is offering us. How about the promise to be there for us, and help us through the difficulties that this life on earth brings us--not to necessarily prevent the challenges that come upon us, but to help us be strengthened with whatever challenges this early life brings us. Just to name a few ways He has demonstrated His love for us.
Author Sun Devil
How do you know that happened? If god loves us, then why are millions of people starving and oppressed in the world. Why would a loving god allow evil to exist? Why is it that ruthless and unethical people are gaining power. It seems as though god wants evil to exist.
KathyM
How do you know that happened? Because I believe the testimonies of those who lived during that time and witnessed it. If god loves us, then why are millions of people starving and oppressed in the world. Why would a loving god allow evil to exist? Why is it that ruthless and unethical people are gaining power. It seems as though god wants evil to exist. God allows evil to exist in this world temporarily. This world is our testing ground. Our reward is in heaven. Heaven will be our perfect world, where there is no suffering or evil.
BetheButterfly
How do you know that happened? If god loves us, then why are millions of people starving and oppressed in the world. Why would a loving god allow evil to exist? Why is it that ruthless and unethical people are gaining power. It seems as though god wants evil to exist. A part of free will is having the ability to hurt or hate, instead of help or love. God didn't make people to be robots. If so, then nobody would kill anybody and we'd all be nice to each other all the time, because we wouldn't be "programmed" to make our own decisions and decide whether to obey or not, and whether to be good or evil. According to the Bible, when the first murder of a human being (Abel) happened, God was not pleased with Cain. He punished him, though he didn't kill him. The following quote is a very interesting one to me, because it shows that God didn't intend for people to be evil. Genesis 6 (I boldened some.) Genesis 6 NIV - Wickedness in the World - When human - Bible Gateway "5 The Lord saw how great the wickedness of the human race had become on the earth, and that every inclination of the thoughts of the human heart was only evil all the time. 6 The Lord regretted that he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled. 7 So the Lord said, “I will wipe from the face of the earth the human race I have created—and with them the animals, the birds and the creatures that move along the ground—for I regret that I have made them.”8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord." That's pretty heavy. God made us with the ability/choice to be wicked and think evil, yet that's not what He intended us to be. He made us not to be hurt each other, but rather to enjoy life and grow. And yeah, as KathyM said, life on earth is a "testing ground." Jesus talked about how people would be persecuted and hurt (Matthew 5, Matthew 24), but he emphasized the important of helping others (Matthew 25, Luke 6). It's not fun that God allows evil and hurt and pain. Personally, I really wish He didn't. However, I'm not God and I don't know the whole picture. I do believe with all my heart though that God is bigger than life on earth, bigger than the universe, is Spirit, and knows more than all the humans who ever lived and died on earth know. Why is it that ruthless and unethical people are gaining power. It seems as though god wants evil to exist. Instead of using these distractions as a way to avoid looking in the mirror, I think you need to ask yourself some honest questions: "If I had a girlfriend, would my perspective of God change?" "Should God "give me" a girlfriend, given that I would use escorts (prostitutes) out of spite?" "Am I mentally and spiritually prepared to have a relationship?" "What do I have to offer a woman (a relationship isn't all about what you want; there's two people involved)" A man owns up to his weaknesses and confronts them. Women want a man, not a boy. You asked in the dating forum, what characteristics to avoid in order to not make them yourself. Answer these questions for yourself, before you start to use God as your whipping boy. He's already taken a whipping for you once, He won't do it again. Yeah, this post may seem rough. But you need some tough love. Stop blaming God, look at yourself. Hard to do, but very necessary if you want to grow.

KathyM
'limited' they might be.... but in this case, they're spot-on. give or take a half-billion years Sorry, but it's so..... Earth - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I really don't know how old the earth is, and I wouldn't consider Wikipedia as a source to bank on either. We currently have very limited means to determine the age of the earth, and those limited means could be quite wrong. I don't believe it can be currently predicted with any accuracy whatsoever. KathyM
That's an insult to the scientific method It's scary that people can't accept simple facts. It's not a fact. It's a calculation based on some scientists limited means.
KathyM
Most scientists would disagree with you. I hate it when people say scientists limited means...when they'd trust science when they've got an illness to treat, or when they get on a plane. Then, their limits aren't a problem. Only when they conflict with their "faith." Many scientists would agree with me, and many scientists also believe in God. I have a lot of respect for science, but it's not the be all end all that some like to make it out to be. Our knowledge is limited, and our scientific methods are limited.
