We used to spend a lot more time with each other.

Recommended Posts

I've been dating my boyfriend for almost a year now. We used to spend a lot of time together before he started art school, and now that he's had less time with me I feel like I've become less important. I live in the states and he lives in Canada. The problem is, neither of us have much money. So we can't fly over to see each other as often as we'd like. Lately he hasn't paid much attention to me at all. ie: Tonight he was supposed to watch a movie with me and spend some time.. he promised, but he fell asleep at 5:30 PM and i haven't heard from him since.

When he does spend time with me I feel amazing, he makes me really happy.. but that's become a rare occasion and mostly I just feel forgotten..

This happens often and i'm beginning to feel like he doesn't care about me anymore.

What do I do?

Whenever I get upset he gets upset too and I end up tending to him and forgetting about my problems.

Negative Nancy

Break up with him, he is not interested in you anymore. Other things (or maybe even other people) clearly have a higher priority right now, which is never a good sign. It's usually the beginning of the end. Who knows what he's really doing.

While sometimes I feel this is true.. I'm still in love with the guy, and I really don't want this to end. He's assured me that I've changed his life for the better, he even calls me his wife.. I just don't know how to confront him without him turning it on me.

How old are you guys? You should tell him how his behavior makes you feel, without being mad. Just tell him calmly "When you fall asleep on me or when you spend more time with your friends than you used to, I feel neglected." No need to get upset with each other.

Ask him how he explains the change on his side, because used to be different, if I understand you correctly.

Best

I'm eighteen, and he's twenty-four. I've attempted to bring it up before but he gets.. i don't know.. and he just tells me if i want a break I should take one. (I've never wanted a break from him.) I end up getting scared i'll lose him and i comfort him and return things to "normal." I've been telling him for about a month now that I really miss him and that he needs to take more time out for me, but he says he's nervous about his surgery coming up.. but i'm the one person he should be coming to if he needs comfort. I do everything for him. Hence the name.. yet he said he likes that i want to be around him all the time.. I'm so confused and lonely that I don't know if I'm over exaggerating or if i'm right.. I just want us to go back to being head over heels for each other like we used to be. Or well he used to be.. I've not changed a bit.

How do you know he fell asleep?

Anyway, I guess you should let him decide what to do with you, it sounds as if you're prompting him to do what you want. Let him be free to pick things he likes and might be looking forward to. Also, he was sleeping, not partying with friends and forgot about you. Be flexible. If he falls asleep at 5.30 pm, maybe it's because he's being up till late to study to fit you in his schedule before that... Think about it.

The thing is he's been promising this for over two months. We've barely spent any time with each other because of school and he knows I've been feeling really lonely and that I've been missing him. He says he'd been missing me too, and wishes things were easier. His friend is there now for three weeks helping him after his surgery and now he has even less time for me.
