skydiveaddict
Our current culture and time, in my opinion, is pseudo-scientific. Everything and anything is scientific. Prove me this, prove me that. It's actually the complete opposite of the "dark ages", where superstition and myth dominated. Now we are on the opposite extreme, which is potentially as dangerous. Everything to us has to be "rational"--which is funny in itself because we are not omniscient and therefore cannot understand everything rationally. So are you contending that the modern scientific method is pseudo science? Similar to the "science" of astrology? That to me is obviously a pseudo science. TheFinalWord
I view Scripture as higher than anything. And sometimes cultural perceptions or views that are restricted to a certain era can influence our thinking so significantly that it's diffucult to break free of it. There was a time, for example, when Jesus wasn't considered by the collective church as being God. If you argued that he was, you would have been on the fringe. It took a collective decision by the church to finally accept this--even though you wonder HOW it could be interpreted otherwise. But society and its perceptions have a huge sway on us. Getting back to OP, if sleep is mentioned over and over in Scripture in relation to visions, dreams, revelation, and terrifying experiences, why can we not just accept it at face value? There is no interpretation involved. The only interpretation is the strong pull of society to label it as superstition or fringe belief. Scripture says what it says. One reason is that there are a lot of false teachers, false prophets, and false messiahs. All of which Christ and the apostles warned about. No? Yes, I agree scripture is the highest wisdom. I do not accept any spiritual "truth" without sifting it through the Word. I say test everything, because the Word says to test everything: test fruits, test truth, test claims about biblical interpretation; it even says test the spirits. Heck, I was laughing, b/c in my intro to experimental design class (years ago) the professor said the first clinical trial on record is in the bible, where Daniel says to compare his countenance with that of the King's men after 10 days of a controlled diet. There is a model in the bible to test, test, test. Edited December 18, 2012 by TheFinalWord
