BetheButterfly
Hello, I won't be able to write anymore on loveshack until after the holidays, so I just wanted to wish everyone a very Merry Christmas (to those who celebrate Jesus' birth, as well as to those who celebrate Christmas but not Jesus) and a Happy New Year!!! Even though I understand that Jesus was not born on Dec. 25 and that Scriptures do not say to celebrate, I enjoy celebrating his birth because Jesus is very important to me. For those who celebrate Jesus' birth, what is your favorite part of the account of his birth? Mine is when the angels came to the shepherds! Luke 2 (I boldened some) Luke 2 NIV - The Birth of Jesus - In those days - Bible Gateway "8 And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. 9 An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. 10 But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. 11 Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. 12 This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.” 13Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, 14 “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.” 15 When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let’s go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has told us about.” 16 So they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. 17 When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, 18 and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. 19 But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 The shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things they had heard and seen, which were just as they had been told." I remember when my little sisters and I would perform plays, using the manger scene figures as props. My sister who has a lovely voice would sing Mary's song (Luke 1:46-55) and we would sing many Christmas carols together with the family. I am so looking forward to seeing my family this year if God wills too!!! Since last Friday, I have felt guilty about this, because of the pain of the families who have lost loved ones, in CT and all over the world. :( However, what a Mom of an amazing girl said showed me that we need to live for those who are victims of grave injustice: "We will talk about her every day, we will live for her," Krista Rekos told ABC News. "We will make sure her brother knows what an amazing person she was." Newtown Couple Vow to Live for Dead Daughter - Yahoo! May peace, love, and goodwill be on earth. We as humans still have a long way to go in this, but may we love others and help the world be a better place, no matter what differences we as people have with each other. This Christmas, let us pray for and actively help those who are hurting, as well as love those who others don't love, so they can feel that they are amazing too and that life is worth living and love is worth doing. Let us love our loved ones and enjoy every moment we have with them!!! Merry Christmas and/or Happy Holidays!!!

TheFinalWord
Merry Christmas to you BetheButterfly! And safe travels to everyone over the holidays. My favorite part of the Christmas story is how Christ was born in a manager. Very counter-intuitive; I love irony like that haha I am hoping to go to Israel soon and see some of these historical sites Jesus of Nazareth - Birth of Jesus Christ - YouTube

If humans had devised the nativity story, he would have been born in a luxurious palace of the King in the finiest of linens--not animal hay. He also would have been born in the wealthiest area, not in a town that was poor and looked down upon.
pie2
What amazing words, BtB!!! Thank you so much. I love what you mentioned about Ms. Rekos' statement that she will, "live for her (daughter)". I think that that is so important. Ms. Rekos' daughter is now in heaven, and I imagine that anyone in heaven would want us to focus on the good parts of this life. For those who celebrate Jesus' birth, what is your favorite part of the account of his birth? I love how everything operated together for God's plan: the census, the voyage, the lack of room at the inn...all for God's glory! I love when things happen to us that seem inconvenient and annoying, but are really part of a much bigger, better plan Merry Christmas BtB! Have a great time away from the daily grind...and don't forget about us

pureinheart
My other fav I think the Gaither's are about as close to a choir of angels singing as you can get lol I cry every time I hear that song FW....One other one does that to me too- "Thank you, for giving to the Lord" (think that's the title...a friend dedicated that song to me, telling me that God used me to tranform her life. We had a simple discussion about a contraversial (sp?) issue. I was just talking, you know, but God used my pathetic words to heal her...wow. FW, we just never know who God will use us for;)

Our perceptions are rather interesting, aren't they...probably spelled perceptions wrong (preceptions)...they both look wrong...don't feel like looking it up
episkopos
I also love the part where the angel came to the shepherds and they were so afraid. Then the angels tells them "Fear not: for, behold I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people." The all people includes me! There is so much bad news and evil tidings on the news today, the birth of Christ is all we need to keep our hearts from failing from fear.
