lynngv
I went in for my check up yesterday and recieved news that was not good.I go in for my yearly check up before the end of the year.Blood pressure looked good and my cholesterol looked good. Then my doctor asked if there was anymore.I told her I felt a hard lump in my right breast on Wendsday during a self breast exam and did not move.Looked at me and said I have breast cancer.Good thing was I caught in time in the early stages. She even felt it and confirmed it.I knew I was at risk,my mother had it 8 years ago and runs in her family.I know young women can get breast cancer,I did my research last night. So far I have support from my kids and parents.A divorce coming next year and this now with Christmas coming up.Next appointment is next week Thursday to set the appointment for the surgery. whichwayisup
I'm sorry to hear this news. Rely on good friends and family through this process and maybe put your D on hold as that's the last thing you want to deal with during treatment and recovery. Please update, often. It's good they've caught this early! Many women beat breast cancer these days. Good thoughts and prayers to you. Edit to add - Okay, do proceed with the D. Read your backstory! Holy cow! Sounds like your soon to be ex is nuts!! Stay safe too.
Author lynngv
Doctor said 98% of time caught in time, quick recovery with the chemo treatments.I am keeping my head up high.At least my mother gave me the greatest advise on this so far: stay positive!
FitChick
A doctor cannot feel a lump and know it's cancer. That takes a biopsy to determine. Find another doctor.

monicaelise
Hey lynn, did the doctor tell you what sort of cancer it is? I'm really surprised that a GP would tell you at a physical that any lump was cancerous. Also, what sort of test did he do? I just went through this whole mess and until the MRI (after the ultrasound and mammogram), it wasn't clear that the masses were problematic. None of my doctors, either the surgeons or the gyn, would commit to saying it was cancer in my case up until that point. Only after the tests did any one of the three say it was "probably malignant". Anyway, hang in there and make sure you check out your options. If your margins are clear (mine were, I had LCIS, proliferative apocrine metaplasia...along with some very weird, alarming supposedly benign tumors), surgery is usually all that's required, though with some cancers you can just radiate. I have a horrible family history so I just went with the mastectomy option. Find out what you have and get some clear answers before you make any decisions. It sucks but there are definitely worse things. I get the feeling your care providers aren't giving you all the info you should be getting. Telling you you have cancer prior to testing is, ethically, highly suspect. Why is your GP doing breast biopsies? They're not trained to do this kind of work as a rule. Author lynngv
My GP doctor said it maybe cancerous,my fault.Had an ultra sound done last week Tuesday, started to spread. The cancer specialist is being good to me about this.
monicaelise
What has started to spread? Typically a single (cancerous) lump doesn't "spread" over the course of a couple of weeks. What you're describing sounds more consistent with a breast infection or fibrocystic breast disease than it does cancer. I found my first mass almost two years ago, and that one ended up being adenosis, which is considered benign. My cancer wasn't firmly diagnosed until after surgery (the MRI and my family history were enough for my insurance to approve the mastectomy), in the pathology reports. The speed with which your condition is progressing is unusual. All five of us (my mother, both of her sisters, my grandma, and myself) saw the disease unfold over many, many weeks and months. The ultrasound can't really tell you much other than how dense your masses are. After that they will do an MRI (cancerous lesions take up the dye differently than other kinds of tissue), and then a biopsy if there are still questions. I think your caregivers aren't really living up to an appropriate standard of care in telling you the things they have been. You really should see if you can find a breast specialist and a new oncologist. This whole situation sounds incredibly suspect. You shouldn't let anyone convince you to undergo massive surgery or chemo or anything at all without all the facts.

soccerrprp
I am sorry to hear about the discovery of the lump. Until a proper biopsy is done, you will not know for certain if it's cancerous, malignant, stage or what type. All need to be confirmed properly. No doctor in the universe will have that answer by simply feeling it.
