First solid food meal!!

I know this might be wierd, but I'm really excited to feed my little dude real food for the first time. He's 6 months old and has been on a combo of breast milk and formula up to this point (I work, so I couldn't BF exclusively though I really really wanted to).

My husband bought me this really cool holistic baby food cook book for Christmas, and we're going to run the recipes by the pediatrician, but it looks like tonight might be his first real meal. Today is his 6 month well baby check up.

The first recipe in the book is ground brown rice and formula or breast milk, so if we get the official OK, tonight at dinner he'll sit in his high chair like a big boy and try out real food with a baby spoon.

I'm so sad and so excited at the same time. When I took those baby spoons out of the package and washed them, my heart strings were pulled the whole time. Babies just grow so fast!

Feels like it could be yesterday that I was in the hospital having him. <3 <3

Better keep a close eye on him, they grow up just too damn quick! Blink your eyes and he'll be wanting to borrow the car keys for his first date!

Congrats ~ just wanted to share the moment with you. ;)

You think that's something, just wait until he attempts to start feeding himself and discovers the "Astrophysical ~ Aerodynamics Propulsion Propensities of food Catapulted From A Spoon 101!"   Not to mention ram en noodle extraction from the nasal cavity! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

My personal favorite...learning how much food will fit into a diaper comfortably without discovery until time to be changed.

Oh! No doubt! There's NO WAY 40 lbs of poo can fit into a ten-twenty pound kid! And there's no WAY it can fit into one diaper!  :(

Those rocket scientist at NASA don't have anything on those design engineers at Pampers!

You know to just introduce one food at a time, right? In case he has an allergy?

I don't know why you need a cookbook to mash up a carrot.

Thanks guys! yeah, they really do grow up way too fast. He's in the throwing things stage LOL and the poop is pretty incredible LMAO

Better out then in, I say hahaha

I really love being a mom in ways I couldn't fathom before I actually became one. <3

Yeah, we're being really careful. I'm in no hurry to wean him and I've done alot of research on weaning and allergies and the like, so I'm not trying to rush him into trying a bunch of new things.

As for why I need a cookbook to mash up a carrot, well, I don't hahah! But, when the baby is ready to try different things, it's good to let them try a variety.

One of my favorite recipes in there is an avacado/oatmeal mash, that I would not have thought of on my own.

Aw its exciting but not at the same time, they really do grow up fast!

One of my daughters favourite mushes was avocado and banana mixed together- and its pretty tasty once you get past the texture.

We introduced vegetables first, before fruit, as I read somewhere this helps steer them away from having a preference for sweet things.

I then froze lots of different purees in ice cube trays then stored them in bags in the freezer and mix n matched for meals. Some fruits (apple/pear) go well with vegetables (broccoli/sweet potato).

Later on we made mini versions of our food, like mini moussaka's etc and put them in the freezer too- we've always tried to feed our daughter as close to what we eat as possible and now, at 3 she is a good eater, loves vegetables, and eats what we eat, I don't buy or prepare her special meals anymore.

We also eat together as a family as much as possible.

Good luck!

Bittersweetie

Hi Cammy, We had our four-month appt last week and the pediatrician said we could introduce rice cereal if we wanted, then food. We're going to wait a bit longer, but I felt like you did...he was just born and now he's ready for real food?!?! The next thing I know he'll be driving!
