Why has my stubborn body stopped losing weight?

Hi,

I'm 5'3 and 155lbs with large breasts and a medium build....and no this is NOT a personal's ad  ...anyways...I've been eating really healthy and exercising every day burning at least 400 calories a day, sometimes 1000. I usually rollerblade or swim or whatever. I'm on weight watchers so for my weight range I eat between 1000-1250 calories a day. And I've been doing this religiously lately. Yet in the past month I haven't lost a pound!! What's up with that??

I checked on the Internet today to see what some calculation thing said about how many calories I burn a day from my regular activities and exercise....and it said 2534. And I KNOW you have to burn 3500 calories to lose a pound....so that means I should be losing at least 2 pounds a week....so over the last month I should've lost at least 8 pounds. Instead I've lost nothing.

Anyone have any ideas how this could happen?? It's hard enough to get myself to exercise and diet as well as I'm doing..but with no results I just feel helpless. I have a month to go before school starts and I want to be like at least 145lbs by then....anyone know how to get those pounds going down again?

Muscle weighs more then fat. It is possible that you are losing fat and gaining muscle, hence your weight has evened out.

I could gain muscle just from swimming laps a lot and rollerblading??? Will I start losing again soon then?

measure your "weight loss" w/ a measuring tape- not a scale- you'll only lose muscle lbs if you stop exercising and let it turn to fat- NOT a very productive plan

muscle makes you look lean, and more toned. I spoke to a friend today who told me about the exercise that the "Friends" stars used to be lean and leggy.

Its something akin to Yoga, but I can't remember the exact name of it.

Eventually, your muscle will start burning your fat for energy. This, however, takes time.

Also, the reasons that your muscles increase in size is because whenever you work out, and strain them terribly, you tear them. Then, muscle-scar tissue fills in the tears, increasing the size of the muscle.

Therefore, if you want to be lean, then don't do lifting. Lifting will build bulky muscle tissue and make you look like a foot ball player. This actually happened to a female friend of mine in college.

I never do lifting!! I don't lift weights at all and never have. For exercise I either swim laps in my pool or rollerblade around town. Who said I weight lifted?? Why would I build muscle from rollerblading or swimming??

I was just giving you extra info. You never know. And as for swimming and the like, it allll builds muscle. Some types of exercise just build MORE then others.

If you want to look lean, particpate in a stretching, low impact exercise such as yoga. :)

Good luck with exercising, and keeping weight off.

I don't know about swimming, or I would reply. :-)

Hi, I know, I know, I'm on a diet too. Been doing 1200-1300 cals for the last five days and I've got 14-18 pounds to lose, so a wee while to go yet.

The calories burned during swimming will depend on how fast you're doing it. It is a total body workout at any rate. From this site http://www.purefitnessuk.com/calories_used_exercising.shtml (thanks)

it seems swimming 600 yards will burn 110 cals. Quite interesting to note that "for every extra pound of muscle you put on, your body uses around 50 extra calories a day. Some scientists believe that regular weight training increases your BMR by about 15%, because muscle burns more calories even when you're not moving."

I like Ashtanga yoga for stretching. It is a form of Hatha yoga, but is slightly faster and more aerobic.
