Death of parent vs. romantic break-up depression?

I have not experienced (fortunately) the death of a parent yet. I was wondering how the depression compares with the break-up of a serious romantic relationship? I have felt really, really depressed at times in my life over break-ups of various romantic relationships, and I realize that a parental relationship is different from a romantic relationship, but does anyone have any input if the depression is worse or the same, etc., between these two types of losses? I really love my parents, and I would say the death of a parent would be more depressing, but then with some of my romantic break-ups in the past, I had been profoundly depressed. Would love to hear your experiences/opinions on this subject. Thanks in advance.

I have not personally experienced it yet, but seeing others who have the response varies greatly. A parent child relationship is powerful but also unique from individual to individual.

People who experience the death of a sibling, spouse or child have it much much worse IME. They never thought it would happen to them kind of a thing. Parents on the other hand you kind of expect them to go someday.
