shoesies05
My whole life I feel as though I am naturally supposed to sleep during the day and be up at night. It may sound odd, but trying to get myself to wake up in the morning is the hardest habit for me to form! I have tried to form this habit throughout my life and it's been a struggle- causing me to be late to school when I was younger and even to this day. Some may think it is just me being lazy but I wake up disoriented 1/5th of the time or more often and unable to logically think about how long I have until I NEED to get out of bed. By that time I always fall asleep again and continuously hit the snooze button. Yet- I have the easiest time getting into the pattern of staying up all night. It seems that whenenever I have a break from school my natural tendency is to stay up until 7 or 8am and then wake up in the afternoon. I don't like this though!!! I want to sleep during the night time because I feel like such a lazy person when I don't. Everyone else seems to work differently than me. I hate that when I'm awake it is dark out and that everyone else is asleep. I feel lonely. Do I have depression? Yes. While I think that can be a contributing factor I have tended to sleep like this naturally whenever given the chance to change my sleeping pattern over the course of a week or two. I guess I'm just venting because it sucks to feel alone in this area and to know that my family judges me as lazy for it and I wouldn't be surprised if my roommates do too. I guess when school starts up again I can just look forward to getting back as close to normal with my sleep habits as I can be. I have decided to not take any classes earlier than 10 am also. UGH... maybe someday I will become a morning person and wake up feeling energized and not so groggy and prone to falling back to sleep so fast.
Author shoesies05
BTW- I do usually have the ability to wake up in the morning when I know it is absolutely necessary and other people are counting on me. Once I get up and going I am perfectly fine too, or maybe after I have some tea or coffee. So it is sheer laziness sometimes that makes me snooze my alarm... but its usually just because I wake up so exhausted. Maybe I also am good at staying up all night because I have less distractions? I can focus on my work knowing that if I text or call anyone I'd be a jerk for it ha. IDK... i hate this though.

One of the biggest questions in life that no one can answer is Why do we need to sleep? Lets face it. We all practically have to `force` ourselves to go to bed, when, like you mentioned, you feel at your `best` late at night. I have to say to myself, ok i need to get up at 6 in the morning so at 9.30 at night i`m thinking to myself, i need to go bed soon or i will `snooze` the button 6 times and then be late for work. Its psychological. As humans we are more naturally `awake` at dusk. Statistically, babies are born more at night, than they are during daylight hours. So maybe in our evolution we were more at risk at be attacked at night than we were during the day? This has been a long standing `joke` between me and my friends. Cos i`ve always asked " Why do we all go to bed feeling great and alert and wake up feeling like S**t and more tired than before we slept?" aM

And yes, people can be very judgmental towards people who are different. Heck, it's just in the recent few decades that learning disability was recognized as a widespread and real problem - before that, the kids who couldn't learn were just 'lazy'. But I am genuinely happy with it. If you feel depressed when you are up alone at night (I feel calm, at peace, and am extremely efficient with my work at that time) then you need to start working on the intervention methods mentioned in the link above.
