writergal
So I'm on day 3 of a viral cold, and I read online that if you drink cinnamon and honey in hot water or hot tea a few times a day, your cold or flu symptoms will decrease and you'll feel better. Has anyone ever heard of this before, or even tried it? I don't like using OTC cold or flu medicines because of all the chemical and preservatives. I've tried this combo today and while it tastes great, I'm a little skeptical that it will actually work. I already use a Neti pot daily and wash my hands regularly, but still I've managed to catch a nasty cold.
PogoStick
There are no magic cures or everybody would know them after thousands of years of these viruses. Just eat healthy with lots of citrus fruits and veggies to give your body the nutrition to do its job. Warm liquids and hot showers can help loosen up the congestion. The OTC stuff won't cure anything but reducing mucus buildup in the lungs and sinuses could prevent a secondary bacterial infection. Sudafed during the day and Nyquil when you sleep.

There is no instant cure to my knowledge to the common cold, but you can make sure to have a healthy body ready to fight by eating healthy. Meds can take you so far. I knew that guy who was on high cholesterol medicine, and because he was on it, he spent his everyday lunches at the local burger king.. Call it retarded, at best.
tman666
I don't know about healing properties, but your concoction may very well be just as effective at suppressing the symptoms of a cold as OTC products. I've always heard that the only real way to get over a cold is just to force fluids, get plenty of rest, and wait.
FitChick
Get a box of Trader Joe's chicken broth or Swanson's canned chicken broth, chop up a clove of garlic and add a pinch of cayenne and drink several cups a day. Quite tasty. Or just make chicken soup yourself. Cinnamon is more for insulin levels.
Anela
Coconut oil, coconut water. Coconut oil blended into an ovaltine shake, brought down my dad's fever. So far, it's also kept the flu away for me, but I'm afraid I'm jinxing myself every time I mention it - like someone feeling great that they've found something to keep the flu away, turning around and getting hit by a bus- that type of feeling. shoesies05
I don't think they will allow you to get over your illness right away- but I do know that honey can help soothe a sore throat. One thing I do like using cinamon and honey for is stomach aches actually. I have a tablespoon of honey and put a TON of cinnamon on top and it almost always takes care of my most horrible stomach aches and fast. I know that cinnamon and honey do a lot of good for the body so while it may not reduce the time of your infection- it def. will be good for you
amaysngrace
I would put grated ginger root in there with the cinnamon and honey. It has great healing properties.
seren
Both cinnamon and honey are nature's super foods. I use Propolis honey capsules, manuka honey in my porridge, topped with a sprinkling of cinnamon, which has been used for centuries as a natural supplement for a good health. I have used manuka honey on my FIL's leg ulcers and it helped them to heal a treat. I make a drink of lemons, sweetened with honey which can be taken hot or cold and soothes a sore throat. A hot toddy is both comforting and tastes great, a grating of ginger and a sprinkle of cinnamon added just adds to the drink. 1/4 cup lemon juice (fresh-squeezed or concentrate) 1 teaspoon honey (or more to taste) 7 whole cloves whiskey (to taste) 3/4 cup boiling water
