I was looking for a daily hair-repair leave-in, and decided to try Redken's anti-snap, because that's exactly what my hair was doing (snapping, splitting, etc.) It's a protien fortifier. At first, I didn't notice much difference, but after using it daily for about a week, A) it seems to have stripped my hair of color, B) my hair is breaking worse than before and C) It has a softer texture, but with tons of fly-aways.

Are there any hair stylists or just anyone who might know: Is this something I should NOT use every day? Because it seems to indicate on the bottle that I SHOULD use it every day. At this point, my hair seems far worse than it was before...i'm not happy about it. Is there reliable way to strengthen my hair now?? Any recommendations?

I recommend you pro naturals moroccan argan oil hair mask, I use it and it works pretty good for damaged hair, helps to restore it and laeaves it soft, healthy and frizz less. :D I love it, if u are interested i bought mine at safrons. com (just in case hehe):D

I've found that the best repair for my hair was to leave it completely natural - no blow drying, no hot ironing, no dyes, no curling/straightening, etc. A lot of that is extremely harmful to the internal structure of the hair, and hair repair kits are really just a band aid to the constant damage.

Sorry if that isn't much help.

So there are a bunch of make at home recipes that you can do to strengthen your hair... anything with egg will help it become more strong because it will add keratin to your hair. normally these masks take less than 5 minutes to make and they work wonders (with time)

also I like It's a Ten products for leave in hair care.

also- coconut oil is really good for the hair so I would suggest putting a tiny but of that in your hair everyday (but not too much otherwise it will be overly oily) or before you shower so it can help your hair retain it's moisture while in the shower.

also- if your hair is breaking all the time it could be due to split ends and damage that really can't be repaired and it may be best to chop all that damage off and then just take really good care of your healthy hair that remained.

and if the hair care you are using isn't working for you then stop using it. Maybe cut down to less than every day use. If it still is doing your hair no good- then in the recycle bin it goes and move on to something else.

Also- you really shouldn't be washing your hair every day in the first place because it strips the scalp/hair and the oil that help protect your hair thus leaving it more prone to damage and fly aways. I'd go for every other day or every couple of days... pretty much the max. amount of time you can get away with while avoiding looking like a hobo.

Thanks for everyone's suggestions. I stopped using the product and my hair bounced back (with the help of an Argan Oil Cream Mask). I've used it twice so far and it has helped restore moisture that was stripped with the Redken. I know I shouldn't wash my hair every day. I give it a break twice a week, but I honestly feel like I sweat so much at night (gross, I know) that I feel disgusting all day if I don't wash it. I was told that it's thick and prone to be oily at the roots and becomes thinner and more dry down the shaft. I'm going to get a good trim this week, too... that should help. I like the home remedy ideas, too. I will give the egg thing a shot (I know eating yolks is great for your hair, but then again, not necessarily for your health, so I don't do that.) :)

It is a complete shift, but there are alternatives to shampoo that give many people better results. I use a product with no detergent, only natural soaps. Burts Bees, for example, has a shampoo bar with no detergents (the part that makes shampoo suds). I can wash every day without any drying when I use a product like that. My hair is down to my mid back, and shiny to the end.

Wen is a more mainstream product that cleans (and conditions) without detergent, but there are lots of others at places like Whole Foods stores and online.

Ah, I hadn't thought of that. Maybe I should try something along those lines, and use a traditional shampoo only a couple of times a week (something to clarify). I've tried dry shampoos, but I didn't like them. I've seen Wen at Harmon stores, I suppose it wouldn't hurt to give it a shot. My hair is long, also... it used to be super, super thick and medium in texture, but since I've been flat ironing it into submission for years, it is obviously worse for the wear. I'm wishing for the hair I had as a teenager again!

Aside from that, grey hairs are popping up all over the place. And the Redken I was using stripped away much of the color, so the greys are standing out like crazy now. :( I use an at-home demi-permanent color to match my own and cover the greys, but I'm thinking about getting it done professionally soon. I seem to miss a lot doing it myself.

If all else fails, shave it all off, grow it back. Think that's what Pompom did.

Ha, I was just thinking of that yesterday: "Maybe I should just shave it all off and start over." Wow, Pompom is brave!! If I ever shaved my head, it would be if I became a Buddhist nun, as I considered once upon a time. I don't think having a shaved head as a lay person (who doesn't want to be celibate) would suit me well, but I envy those women who can pull it off ! :p

I don't know whether I'm too late but I swear by this product La Brasiliana Dieci All-In-One Instant Hair Treatment Reviews | Folica.com

It has done wonders to my hair. I still get split ends when it grows beyond a certain lengths but as long as I cut it once about every 4 months it looks shiny and healthy as I use this product every day. I shampoo my hair every day, I have to as I do a lot of sports and sweat as a result.

I think I'm on my 3rd bottle for this product, each lasts for several months as the nozzle disperses only small amounts for each squeeze. Love it. It has been revolutionary for me.

It's a nice product, very light. I use about 8-10 squirts of the stuff each time depending on hair length.

I still use normal conditioner after I wash my hair, as someone said you can buy both shampoo and conditioner that don't have sodium in them.

I think one rule that's really important is not to put either type of conditioner on the crown of your head but only start from about 4 inches down. This way you decrease the greasiness of the hair that starts at the top - this used to be an issue for me until a hairdresser told me not to use any kind of conditioner on the very top. I don't use any on my fringe either. It's all new hair, doesn't need conditioning.

Hope all helps!

As a hairdresser, someone above reccomended an oil based product, I can rave on for hours how these products will benefit your hair!

Moroccan oil..AMAZING!

And trims, regular trims! If you dont cut off the spilt ends all it is going to do is spilt futher up the hair shaft therefore causing more damage in the longrun therefore the next hairdressers you go too, will want to cut off 2-3 inches!!
