I'm socially awkward

I really need some help guys. I have a hard time talking to people. EVERYONE. Including my boyfriend :( (well, we just broke up today, but to make it easier, I'll call him that)

He moved away for work and I HATE the phone. I get on the phone and I have nothing to talk about. Ever. I sit there and say the same thing every day. I can never think of anything interesting to say to anyway. Im boring. I don't have an hobbies. For some reason, I think everything is boring, I have no interests in anything, which is probably why.

How do I over come this? I want to call my boyfriend on the phone and talk for hours and hours and laugh and joke and have a good conversation, but instead this is how it goes:

Me: Hey baby

Him: Hey love, what's up?

ME: Oh nothing, just sitting down. You?

Him: Just got home from work, making something to eat.

Me: Oh..cool

(3-5 minutes of silence...)

Me: I love you,

Him: I love you too honey

(More silence)

Him: Okay, well I'll call you later.

That's it. That is it with everyone. On the phone, on skype, in person. I can't hold a conversation. Hell, I can't even hold a conversation with myself.

I want to be fun and entertaining! And go hiking, and camping, and to the movies and have stuff to talk about, but all I can do is lay in my bed, sleep, have boring conversations with my boyfriend, play on my computer and feel bad for myself. Maybe I'm depressed? Or I have anxiety? Hell :(

How come you don't?

With the UNLV I'm assuming you go to college. Are you in any social groups or clubs? Do any activity classes?

I'm pretty awkward myself but you got me beat haha

I know how you feel. Definitely join a club or sports team. Get around people and watch them socially interact. Watching and trying a little yourself is the only way to improve.

Extra thought: Do you think you might have depression?

You don't sound boring, you clearly have a sense of humor. It's a good question about depression or anxiety and you should probably explore that...pain in the as$ it can be to do. Do some research then see your doctor. And I hear it's a pretty common thing in college, if you're a student. So, none of it has to be permanent and doesnt need to define you.

You sound like my 14 year old daughter. She is battling depression and was suicidal in November. Luckily she is finally on Zoloft as of yesterday and its amazing how much better she seems to be in just two days.

I would definitely look into seeing somebody to figure out if you're suffering from depression or anxiety or maybe even something else.

But like you, my daughter compares herself to other people a lot and feels different than other girls a lot.

Have you ever been tested for which side of your brain you think from? Some people are more emotional while others are more thoughtful. Most women are emotional. My daughter is not. Which is probably why she doesn't really fit in with the girls so much. She thinks more like a male.

But definitely explore your options. You only have one life. May as well make it as good as it can be. :)

No, I'm unfortunately not. I work 45-50 hours a week because I am an assistant manager at my job, and I take 6 classes, with a lab. I'm in two colleges and taking online too. I am always so busy I, I feel exhausted all the time. I can't even force myself to laugh sometimes because I feel like I'm always I'm gonna fall over.

If I wasn't so busy I would. I need to go to school full time to get a degree, and I need to work full time to pay for college and get a car :(

OK, it sounds like you are hella busy.

That might be your problem.

It probably makes you feel exhausted.

I am socially awkward also. I also used to find it hard to think of things to talk about unless talking to someone who was able to carry the conversation really well. I got most of my practice from someone who was an excellent conversationalist. So I'm better now, but still learning. Look for someone whose conversation skills you admire, and watch how they talk to people. Notice the tricks or methods they use that seem to work well, and try them out on someone.

Also, your schedule sounds exhausting. It can be harder to talk to others when your energy is low. I'm wondering if you are an introvert who needs lots of time to recharge.
