Unending gut, Can it ever go away if i have disabilities?

Recommended Posts

Disabilities so i can't do hard core strenous exercise like the ones shown in workout programs like INSANITY etc. I can't do that.

I do my little aerobic exercises that i can, which is just light in place stuff. i can't run i have bad knees and Spinal injuries etc.

I trying to eat good too. I'm in descent weight and shape

But that gut doesn't go ways. Seems the only ones who can get rid of it are the realy naturally skinny people like Asians. OR the americans who workout like crazy.

Yes, I had lost 30 pounds on a an injury that affected both knees...preventing me from doing any cardiovascular exercises like running/jogging, even much walking.

It's your genetics however that have you carry your weight in your belly, and that isn't going to go away until you lose more weight, it's that simple...you can't just lose weight in the belly area, it's an overall thing your body does as you lose weight and burn calories.

The first thing is going to be your diet...learn how to count calories, keep track of them by basically writing everything down you eat...to your surprise you're eating a lot more calories than you realize and some foods while seemingly perceived to be good for you and low in calories...are actually much more than you had thought.

There are good websites out there for that like livestrong that I personally use infrequently just to track something down in terms of calories.

After a while you'll be able to guesstimate how much calories you're eating without even really having to count them. The thing really is being aware of how many calories things are, it adds up quicker than you know.

Portion size....most people are eating much much more than they realistically have to. I'm about 6'1 205 by now...I honestly eat a 1/3 of what I used to eat, or even half, most people think since I'm a "big guy" I eat lots of food but I eat very small amount of food....or actually the right amount.

This will take some getting used to, so you'll have to gradually eat less and less as your body adjusts. At 235 I had a gut but wasn't considered "fat" as I'm a muscular guy and have lifted weights many times in my life, however at 205 lbs the gut is just about completely gone and I haven't even been to the gym one day, it's all at home stuff and controlling my diet. If I were to hit the gym I'd easily melt off another 10 pounds, I wanted to see what I could sustain just through dieting, and as a guy who's always hated to watch what he had to eat and only wanted to eat whatever is convenient I'm glad I can sustain a 205-210 body weight by just dieting/ or eating right, I plan on ramping it in the future with lifting and such.

There are also home exercises you can do like;

- situps

- pushups (even using your knees if you have to)

- bent rows

- curls

- dips (sit at the bottom of your couch on the floor put your hands on the edge of the couch edge behind you and lift yourself up and down while facing forward)

- lunges (but not go all the way down, as far as your knees will let you)

- military press

All you need is some free weights like dumbbells and a barbell and you can do a lot at home, enough to make you lose weight.

Also keep in mind, getting your heart rate up is the key...the faster you do your exercises and get tired the better...that burns calories, you don't have to be sprinting or running or anything like that, all you need to do is make yourself get tired...your heart will start pumping, you'll sweat and lose your breathe, in fact the things you can do with your own body are much more difficult than what people do at gyms...I've done a lot of weightlifting and everyone knows plyometrics willl kick your arse any day of the week versus just lifting weights up and down.

Stay motivated and dedicated...it takes a while to lose the weight and learn to eat right...if you're serious about it there's a lot of resources on the internet. You might think you're in decent shape by looking at your body but I guarantee you that you're out of shape...big time.

look up websites like bodybuilding.com for motivation and dieting, It's a serious site with serious people who lose weight or lift weights, and people who've been extremely overweight and got in incredible shape.

Don't let your disabilities hold you back, if you have a piss poor attitude and regulate yourself by telling yourself what you can't accomplish then you're already going to fail.

I've had a lot of injuries to my knees, one back injury, fractures, sprains etc...I push my body very hard and recover the best I can, you'd be surprised how much psychologically you can limit yourself, you may have some substantial back injuries that will limit you but there's almost something always you can do instead of just absolutely nothing...you'll need to keep your back straight, and learn how to use your butt cheeks and other parts of your legs instead of your knees to do certain exercises. I had to keep knee bending to an absolutely minimum.

My H is a regular gym user, eats healthily and still has a Buddha belly going on. He tried everything to shift it, then we looked at his diet and elimanated bread, pasta and reduced his intake of carbs and yeast products. Result, his belly went flat for the first time in a long time.

I have problems exercising due to spinal and joint problems, I spoke to the physiotherapist who devised an exercise routine that strenghtened my core muscles, without damaging or putting strain on my joints and back. I also use a small plate (bread and butter plate) for meals, I have never ate a lot so that has been no problem for me, pile on veggies and use the ration of half veg, and the rest divided into carbs, protien and starch foods. I have also substituted a lot of meat for fish, especially herring, mackerel and salmon as they are high in fish oil, no processed foods and stick to the if you cannot grow it or kill it, don't eat it. I still find it really hard to lose weight and am now being investigated for insulin resistance.
