Author Els
OK, so I tried one strip. It sucked! It didn't hurt THAT badly, but I certainly cringed enough that I wasn't sure I was too eager about repeating that 10 times for the rest of my legs. Worst thing is, it didn't take all of the hair off? It took SOME off, but about half of them are still there. I am positive I followed all the instructions - apply in direction of hair growth, remove in opposite direction parallel to the skin. There was a crapload of wax left over on my skin and some hairs too. Also how do you reuse the strips when there is already hair stuck to them?
Author Els
It's okay if there's hair stuck to the strip, the hair on the strip won't stick back onto your skin. You can use the strip until it stops sticking basically. You can also use it to get the big bits of wax off your skin just by going over that spot again (which will also pick up those remaining hairs). To get as much hair as possible, be sure to rip up as quickly as you can and smooth the wax down firmly on your skin before hand. Also, pull the strip up in the opposite direction that you laid it on, not away (or out) from your body. If you're still having trouble, try powdering your skin lightly before you lay the strip on. It gives the wax more to grab on to. I think that's pretty much it but I'm sure our lovely kiwi will have more insights for you. Happy ripping!! Hm, so I can (or should) re-do the same area multiple times? Am a little afraid cause the youtube video that I watched (girl claimed she was a beautician) said not to re-do the same area twice or you'll risk ripping your skin. Maybe I didn't do it quickly enough. It's just really scary to do what is essentially the equivalent of ripping duct tape off your body - you instinctively try to slow down. Author Els
Also, has anyone ever ripped their skin off before by waxing? :/
Author Els
You can go over the area more than once, but I wouldn't push my luck at this point if I were you. If you don't get everything by the second try, wait and come back to it in a couple days. (Remember some of the advice they give is to ensure you're going to spend as much money as possible on their products, so take it with a grain of salt and just pay attention to how your skin feels) Gotcha. I have ripped skin off, but not on my legs. Legs are pretty tough. Steer clear of that bikini area though! I know you mentioned your partner is down with the natural look, just mentioning this as it's the only area I've ever lost skin on/in. The battered beaver look is soooo not hot (well, at least when it's been battered this way). Have I ever told you that your quotes are priceless, monica??? But... ouch. I can't even imagine how it must feel to rip skin off your genitals. Good god.
LittleTiger
Also, has anyone ever ripped their skin off before by waxing? :/ I had a 'professional' in a very reputable salon rip my skin off with wax. The very soft part of the inner thigh right next to my other soft parts!!! Never had a wax since and never will again!!!!!!!!!!
sweetkiwi
Yeah I gotta bikini wax then spent a month in a bikini under the Mediterranean sun... And where the girl ripped my skin off I got hyperpigmentation. Looked like I had brown patches on my bikini line. Not cute!!
Life'sGood
Legs area are bearable. Underarms, my first time hurts so bad, but still bearable. The genital area.IT HURTS LIKE A BIT*H! Yes, part of my skin were ripped off the first time around and I thought to myself, how stupid of me to do that. I liked the result though so, I do it again the following month and it doesn't hurt as bad as the first time. You may have to go over the same area again but I wouldn't recommend it and you have said that your pain tolerance level is low. So, wait for a bit before you go over that area again. Life'sGood
And I forgot to mention, I used drugstore wax, DIY.

Author Els
Christ, girls! I had no idea skin tearing was that common. I'm starting to chicken out now. I know legs are different, but it doesn't help that I bought some unknown-brand drugstore kit! Have no idea why I just read this thread but am wondering.....where all them boys who say women have it easy? They are usually suspiciously missing from threads about stuff like this and periods/PMS. It's easier to hang on to their beliefs if they purposefully only read stuff that enforces them.

There was a crapload of wax left over on my skin and some hairs too. Also how do you reuse the strips when there is already hair stuck to them? I blame those crappy cheap strips. The ones I used were the same - hardly took anything off. I'd have been as well using sellotape. Veet is the best I've used, though I remember also getting good results with a sugaring kit from the body shop. If a strip of wax gets left on your skin it's probably because you didn't pull the strip away quickly. To get rid of it, just rub the strip on top of the wax that's left, pull away more quickly and that should pull off the wax. With the cheap strips, you can't use them more than once. With Veet strips you can use the same strip a few times though maybe not if you're waxing for the first time, since there would be a lot of hair coming out.
Author Els
I could not find any sugaring kits at the pharmacy I looked in, I asked. Would have preferred sugaring if it had been available. I needed my legs shaven by this weekend so I went back to shaving instead. Hate shaving, mainly because my legs feel like cacti a mere few hours after the deed!
FitChick
Since waxing rips hair out by the roots, why not skip the wax mess and buy an epilator? I used to have the Epilady years ago and loved it. Used it until it broke. Now I just use cheap razors. When I have extra money I'd like to get laser hair removal and be done with it. Lots of epilator reviews and information here.
ASG
Epilator hurt me much more than waxing! I've never shaved. I've always waxed and for the last few years it's been mostly DYI. I usually buy Veet strips for the legs and underarms. I also have a proper hot wax melting pot, with chocolate wax, for my bikini wax needs. (DIY bikini wax HURTS like a MOFO! And I sometimes end up sitting there with the wax, not able to bring myself to pull it off... It's not fun and because of it I don't do it very often...) Legs hurt, but nothing major. I have very little hair and it's blondish, so I manage each leg with 2 strips (only below the knee as well.. Don't have enough hair to wax the top part of the leg)
FitChick
I would only use the epilator on legs. The first couple of times it hurt a bit but not unbearable and, over time, less and less.
ASG
I would only use the epilator on legs. The first couple of times it hurt a bit but not unbearable and, over time, less and less. I only ever used it on my lower legs and it was unbearable. I used it a few times and it was just horrific the amount of pain it caused me. But my mom swore by it... So I guess it depends on the person... The epilator would also break a lot of hairs instead of pulling them out. Maybe they were too thin..
