Revenge of the Nerds: Another Useless Study

Recommended Posts

All those who cannot simply accept any generalization based on the sum of all human experience can breath easier now that Swiss researchers have spent untold resources (PET scans, monitoring time, etc.) to determine that......................................................................(drum roll)............................................................

REVENGE IS SWEET.

Of course, they only studied men. Brian Knutson, Stanford University Psychologist summed up the studies conclusion "Instead of calculated reason, it is passion that may plant the seeds of revenge." Who would have guessed this?

However, they are planning next to study women. This will no doubt at least double the cost.

Heaven forbid we use these resources to discover a cure for AIDS, Cancer, etc. If we did, then we would need to rely on our own horrible biases and "common" sense.

Ha. That guy has the word "nut" in his name.

It would be harder I think to study women and revenge as we can be oh, so, subtle with it.

"Common sense" had humans believing that the sun revolved around the earth and that the earth was flat. Fortunately, we have science to show us how stupid "common sense" can sometimes be.

:D Wondered if you'd notice!

Well, we can thank science. It will settle this debate, regardless of cost.

Yeah, another billion dollar "factoid" that allows me to sleep better at night.

Don't they have some kind of research grants for incredibly stupid studies? Like which farts smell worse-horse or cow? I seem to remember something like that......

and that the earth was flat.

People were able to deduce that the earth was not flat by watching the ships disappear on the horizon. So it does not always require big studies to gain knowledge. That study does seem stupid, but that´s probably just a part of the results, maybe they discovered more interesting facts.

And, of course, because every now and then some bureaucrat bungles and ok's a study that turns out to seem foolish means that no studies should ever be conducted.

Kinda like because some teachers are awful, all teachers should be fired, right?

Extrapolating from one example to 'prove' that all similar things are similar in every way is not even close to logical. Or, for those who don't like all this talk of logic and fact:

BOGUS

Anything's possible. I guess if some folks have money to toss away, they may have created such an entity.

I think is is called the U.S. Department of Education......or, it could be the U.S. Department of Agriculture.......or, it could be the FDA.....or, it could be.........

(insert pork barrel agency here.)

Moi, are idiot studies necessarily the result of some bungling bureaucrat? What multi million dollar science project has proven this beyond the shadow of a doubt! :D

Well, I suppose there's another example of "bogus" claims under your belt, huh?

These studies are the result of a handful of hard heads that refuse to accept every instinctive shred of knowledge humanity has gained over its entire period of evolution.

And, of course, this population includes every lawyer that smells $$$$ whenever a hapless business can be sued for providing convenient, extraordinarily safe (comparatively speaking, we rarely find parasites and bacteria in a Big Mac), and affordable food.
