Can anyone recommend a good appetite suppressant?

Recommended Posts

Not concerned about them being potentially unhealthy.

I have recently begun a regimen where I do about 2 hours of cardio a day, but it's making my appetite completely cracked out. I am training for something and need to drop some weight.

Oh, and as embarrassing as it sounds, I have a difficulty taking large pills, if that matters.

Thanks!!

fall for some one have them reject you and you should lose your appetite...kidding, anything high fibre will make you fele fuller for longer, increase protein, i am female though so....dont know if i helped at all....wear glad wrap, increase water consumption...my ideas are really stupid, but they seem to work for me, my son says everytime he sees me i am smaller, i have no appetite....and i work out......deb

Atomoxetine, 80 mg/day. Also known as Strattera, a common ADHD drug. Any ADHD drug will likely have the same effect, but I recommend this one because it's non-stimulant and therefore not addictive.

It will kill your appetite so much that you will literally have to remind yourself to eat, so you need to be careful.

But you don't have to take my word for it. A study by Duke University proves that there is a definite link between the use of this drug and weight loss. Info here:

The best appetite suppressant is your brain. :D

Seriously. Losing weight is not about eating less only but about eating less more times a day.

But I guess you wanted a pill that would make it all easier. The only ones that I know contain derivatives of speed or other mood enhancing drugs. One I took years ago is now banned in the US.

Fact is...I have lost more by eating less more often in a day than by taking a pill or doing more exercise.

I have lost forty pounds over the last year... thirty in six months (which may not be quick enough for you). It was done by eating three small meals and three snacks. Each meal was under 300 calories and the snacks were around 150.

Unless I am looking at the wrong thing, is this not a prescription drug? I'd much prefer something over-the-counter.

Ug. I couldn't tolerate Strattera and couldn't wait for its effects to leave my system. It works a major neurotransmitter called norepinephrine and made me so hyper-sensitive and jittery I could perceive the alternating current cycles in fluorescent lighting. Perhaps Wellbutrin is a better choice to see if that's the right direction. Wellbutrin is used in smoking cessation. Personally, I think appetite suppressants are a dead end that can actually cause chemical problems. What works best is just realizing that there is a threshold of time that must pass before your brain/pleasure center gets over the impulse to act out. That's often just a few days to a few weeks. If you act out on a craving early in the withdrawal period, the delight you will get will seem even greater than it normally is from your favorite foods. And that delight is where most people fall off their diet--it's like being in a desert for a day with no fluids and then finding a pitcher of the best lemonade you ever had. You turn into an animal that wants to live in lemonade heaven. I'm sure you can substitute other analogies. The bottom line is fighting through your threshold so that you adjust to the absence and then get some other kind of reward like trying on something that didn't fit before. If you get that to fit you get a different kind of reward that helps change your priorities. Appetite suppressants can mess with your sleep cycle, make you tired at the wrong times and it's harder to fight impulses when you are tired. Good luck.

A relationship breakdown! Lol.

Seriously though, back in June my ex first left me for a month. I thought it was permanent and lost 15lbs in that month. Just could not eat. Had ZERO appetite. Then we got back together and I never quite put the weight back on again.

He left me for good last December and again, I couldn’t eat. I lost more weight. I looked horrible.

Other than that, sip one of those energy drinks. They really suppress my appetite. The sugar makes me feel like I’ve eaten and am sort of satisfied even when I’m not.

Stop doing so much cardio. That makes everyone hungry. Do more weight training. Body builders don't do any cardio. Losing weight is down to diet.

YES!

The Perfect Appetite suppressant is.......... Water!

Believe it or not, it IS true.

Drink a ton before you eat. Drink a ton while before and after you snack on the healthier stuff. Drink a ton of it in between*

And I agree with the other poster that said lay off so much cardio.

I have heard of others give the thumbs up to water too. Try get your hands on the herb Hoodia Gordonni. It comes from Sth Africa.

When I was in the big pharmacy warehouse not so long ago I saw numerous appetite suppressants on the shelf, and I think a few of them have this in it. Plenty of appetite suppressants getting marketed, but where are the appetite booster supplements (that's what I want)
