College is messing up my game

It didn't help my grades either. I suspect if SD started getting involved with a girl right now, especially if it was with a girl with any sort of drama it would not be good for his studies. If early on in the relationship the girl started to make issues over his lack of past relationships or limited social life it would throw him for a loop for sure and his studies would suffer for sure. Now if he had a fwb he could hang out with on a fri or sat night to relax that would be the ticket.

If this course has been going 10 yrs, then he needs to hit the books seriously.

But the confidence boost is great. I definitely soared high on that for a while. Yet as soon as it becomes really serious (in this case rather quick) more and more issues stasrt to creep into the relationship and that might get your results taking a nosedive.

Well that was quick. Completely above and beyond anything I knew. Didn't even bother turning in the test.

Drop it with a W and take calc at the local community college over summer semester. That will allow you to graduate.

Also, fire your Calc tutor.

I'd really love a confidence boost. /sigh

The school has a hard limit on the number of units a student can drop and I've already reached it. Either I pass or fail.

Also this class is the prerequisite for one class that I need, that I am planning on taking during the summer.

Due to the number of units I've taken and how long I've been at the school, I will not be allowed to enroll in the fall '13 semester. So I'm pretty much f'ked.

I've only had one session with the tutor so it's not her fault. It's through the school and for some reason the meetings started really late in the semester.

You didn't even bother to turn in your test? What? Why?

You need to be at every office hours your professor and T.A. have begging for help, in addition to working with your tutor. You just need to pass the class and sometimes showing great effort will result in a D, even though you may deserve an F. Blowing off the test and not even turning it in is not the way to convince the professor that he should pass you. Further, go talk to the professor and tell him your predicament tomorrow. He needs to know how badly you need to pass this class and how hard you intend to work to make it happen.

The last thing you need right now is to worry about dating. You need to graduate.

Somedude, being single is prime time to focus on college. Getting a girlfriend would distract you about 100 times more :/

OP...face it...youre 31 going on 32...the ship has sailed on college girls. Focus on getting your degree and dating mature women afterwords.

I hope you don't think that having a girlfried will help your grades.

She may be a better writer than him and can proofread his papers and an added bonus of if they are in the same class or classes is that he can copy off her.

It was either that or turn in a test with nothing but my name written on it.

I've tried stuff like that before and still ended up failing and having to repeat a class.

It's not about begging them to pass me. I need to somehow learn the material or I'm just going to fail the next test.

It's not about being distracted.

It's about hating my life and not wanting to be alone. I would be nice to have a little support in my life and something to look forward to instead of constantly getting beat up.

The ship might have sailed on pretty much all women. At 32 he's got a lot of catching up to do.

I am sorry first relationships do not work like that. Especially when there is no basis there,ie: game.

He will be stuck so far up his "girlfriend's" ass that calculas will seem like Hyperbolic Geometry. The last thing he needs is a distraction.

Get off of LS and go study. Your dating life isn't going to get any better as a 31 year old college student - unless you already have game and...

The only thing you should worry about is becoming more attractive and doing what it takes to get to know more people and in your case that means getting a degree and a real job. Be real people, geez

Somedude, just curious, what do you really have to offer to a girl? Beauty? Education? Money? Confidence? Broad knowledge? Any intriguing quality?

Look, I'm not trying to be mean but you sound like you have none of those checked. WHY would you expect a woman to go for you then? Get your stuff together first, become someone WORTHY of a relationship and then expect one.

Stick to your studies. Get your priorities straight.

FTR I was mostly joking with that reply.:p

If SD cut at least half the time that he is on here and put it towards studying he would be close to a 4.0 no doubt.

At this point he has nothing to lose by holding off a little longer on women and concentrate on his studies first.

I understand how important having a girlfriend can seem when you don't have or haven't had one. Your mind can start to turn it into this cure-all that, if only you could get it, would make all your other problems easily conquerable.

I get it, but, when you are getting started into college and then the "real world" (it's all real but you know what i mean), relationships tend to do less good for you than bad. As far as setting up a good future for yourself, etc. Don't get me wrong, love is incredible when it's going well, and it can teach you extremely valuable things about yourself (particularly when it ends )... But honestly, my one long term relationship, which spanned age 20 - 24, was a period of dully painful complacency where as much as I loved my girlfriend, she was the reason I wasn't accomplishing what I wanted. Not that she can be blamed or that it happened that way by any intention of hers. But the sheer amount of time I felt I needed to spend with her, and the comfort zone coupledom created resulted in a serious lack of personal growth. I don't regret it, because it made me who I am today and now I've got that fat fire under my ass. But just don't see having a girlfriend as some magical cure for all youre dealing with. Or even how you feel emotionally (it can easily cause more problems I promise).

Deal with your school and don't scapegoat your single status. Life gets monotonous and sh*tty sometimes. I f*cking hated school. But if you're there... Make the best of it and kick it's ass !

Somedude,

I get a sense that you are quite depressed and snapping back/being angry at people is a defense mechanism, rather than you just being a dick. You are at the point of where you seem so frustrated with life that you lost motivation to do anything.

I know that you think getting a girlfriend will make everything so much better, but unfortunately it's not something you have 100% control of. You probably see passing calculus and getting a college degree as much less important, but I bet it adds to your misery and a sense failure. I bet that failing calculus test is going to knock your overall self-esteem and confidence even further. It will reflect in all areas of your life, including getting girls.

Trust me, you will so much better about yourself if you can somehow find a motivation to finish your college degree. From your posts on here, I know that you are more than intelligent enough. If you hate calculus and have tried all reasonable avenues (with getting tutors etc) and failed, is there a way you can transfer your credits and graduate with something that doesn't require calculus?

This is something that you DO have 100% control of and it's about time you did something about it.

What the hell is wrong with your college?

My college offers SO much extra help!

Surely there are support services put into place?

Why won't they let you take as long as you need to, to pass?

Annoyingly, there are plenty of people who will never use math in their science or IT related degrees, and yet have to bloody do it!

In the states, good science and nutrition has to do calculus... like WTF as if you will EVER use it in your career!

I understand they want even English majors to prove they can do basic math in order to GET a degree, however: the degree of math is really stupid, in terms of how hard it WAY out of proportion to the degree at hand.

What exactly about Calculus is making it so hard? Or is the entire subject by itself?

I have to say from all the things in my bachelor degree I had the most trouble with Calculus but I passed that as well after giving a real serious try. Then again most of chemical engineering has a lot of math aspects to it...

I blame the teaching. Most teachers/books make calculus seem more complicated than it is. Students quickly lose track and get intimidated and it snowballs from there.

That could be quite right. I've had only one lecture that really got me interested and that was a substitute teacher.

Furthermore I think the only way you're going to complete Calculus is practice, practice, practice, practice and when you feel like rather swallowing the book practice some more.

OP, I'm probably on my own with this here but I'm surprised you never switched to a course you could actually have hopes to finish. Wouldn't it be the best course forward? Salvage what you can and switch to something less strenuous rather than face challenges both in your love and professional life?

True but his grasp of concepts is poor, SD has admitted that much himself. I don't get the impression he is suited to this degree.

I agree that he is not suited to hard maths subjects.

I wasn't , so I opted out of my food science/nutrition degree, despite wanting to be a nutritionist since age 8..

I am not bellow average in math, I just never applied myself in school, and school was over ten years ago.

I could not be bothered re learning math since it was so far gone out of my system!

Pushing himself to do this is NOT WORTH the suffering he is enduring...
