A family member has Trichotillomania, which is compulsive hair pulling. She pulls/plucks out her eyebrows. She did manage to stop for three months and they grew back but she has started again due to stress. It seems worse than ever. She has pretty much pulled out every hair on her right eyebrow. It kills me to see her doing this to herself. She has told me how she feels anxious before she starts pulling, then relief once she's pulled then anxious/depressed afterwards. If she has one hair that sticks out, is darker in colour or longer than the rest then she has to pull it out.

I feel so bad for her. She has seen her doctor about it but he didn't say/do very much.

Is there anything I can say/do to help her stop?

Mild anxiety can be treated without a doctor's involvement. Meditation or relaxation tapes can help calm the mind. Soak in a hot tub, watch television, read a book or talk with a friend to help ease anxiety. Exercise, eat healthy and get plenty of rest. When you feel a pang of anxiety coming on, try to refocus by taking a walk, reading or diving into a hobby.
