UpwardForward
I've been selling second hand stuff on ebay. Imo, that's having your own business. And doing it with minimal expense.
Seachelle1
I started my business when I was homeless. I bought a book I knew to be rare for 50 cents and resold in a month for 200 bucks. That was my starter. I was 16, a high school drop out and probably desperately in need of some Prozac. I'm smart, yeah, but a lot of people are. I think most people could start their own business if they put their mind to it.

Cassandra321
I think one of the hardest part in life is to convince someone in his adult age to do something he never considered to do in his early years. It's just like bending a hard pole of steel using your bare hands. Sometimes, we tend to have the difficulty to 'bend' our understanding that you can really make money in business only if you know the kind of business you're getting yourself into. Some of the unemployed individuals I know, who set up their own businesses are successful and the rest are not. The difference? That passion to learn more of the business they are building. If you're unemployed, you might want to consider setting up your own business. But you should be ready to take the risks. After all, if you do what you should do, you'll find no hard time bringing $$$ in your pockets.
Els
I think stories like these are great motivational speeches... but the issue is that they are rare enough to actually be story-worthy. If it was something literally anyone and everyone could do regardless of personal and financial circumstances, it would be common enough that nobody would write stories about it anymore. That being said, having my own business has always been a dream of mine, but it has to be balanced with pragmatism, usually of the financial variety. Oftentimes there is the money-time conundrum, where if you have the time, you may not have the money, and vice versa. Not to mention that young couples who want to build a life together and raise a family might not have the luxury to spend their time in risky financial endeavours, but would rather choose a more secure, even if more banal, source of income.
