Sugarkane
This really annoys me. I've never been a smoker, yet I get this problem.
anne1707
Not everybody has brilliant white teeth, simple as that. Most teeth are naturally off-white, creamy, towards yellow even.
Nyla
Do you drink a lot of coffee or red wine? Those foods can stain your teeth too. Try this: Teeth Whitening Products by Supersmile ? Official Site It works well...very expensive but worthy every penny. Failing that, you can also invest in some teeth whitening by your dentist. The over the counter tooth whiteners don't work very well.

Enema
Might be something else in your diet. Or, they might use whitening products. It's cheap and easy. Just buy some Crest White Strips on eBay, problem solved faster than it took you to make this thread.
iris219
While certain things will stain your teeth, some people's teeth are more prone to staining. It could be due to the size of the pores in your teeth. Larger pores = more staining. I'm one of those super annoying people who drinks coffee, red wine, and used smoke, but I have very white teeth--so white strangers comment on them. I did nothing to deserve them. Try a teeth whitening product, but don't use it too much. I heard they can increase the pore size, leading to more staining.
Author Sugarkane
Ive tried whitening products before but they've never worked and just seem to be full of lies. It's not fair that smokers can still look ok. Going to the Dentist for whitening is costly here. I love coffee so much:/
TaraMaiden
Correct brushing is important. 2 minutes at a time. And - genetics. I have dreadful teeth, but they're rock-solid. And yellow. The more yellow the teeth, the stronger they tend to be. Very white is very powdery......
sweetkiwi
You'd hate me. I smoke, drink espresso, red wine, everything and still have bright pearly whites. But I also drink a lot of water and have a very healthy diet. Also drinking water after you consume coffee or red wine helps too. Get a gentle whitening system. I've used them for years and it's always worked well.
FitChick
Yes, rinse your mouth with water afterward if you don't want to use whitening strips. There are whitening toothpastes which are sometimes abrasive. Not all whitestrips are the same. You just have to experiment. I do a maintenance whitening every few months because I drink a lot of tea. My teeth couldn't become blazingly white even if I wanted them to because my natural enamel is a very pale ivory. I take them to their naturally whitest level for me. I wouldn't have the laser whitening because it's very painful. Old people have yellow teeth because it's decades of accumulated stain as well as tooth enamel thinning with age so the yellow dentin underneath shows through. Yellow teeth make you look older than you are as well as receding gums do -- you've heard the expression "Long in the tooth" meaning old person.
ImperfectionisBeauty
I have fairly white teeth, I use a mixture of toothpaste, baking soda, peroxide and water. It is a pastey type mixture and it works pretty well, I mean they aren't the brightest white, but they are white enough. I also heard baking soda and lemon juice whiten teeth. I had braces for 4 years so I was REALLY worried about having stained teeth.
amazingdrummer
Don't trust teeth whitening. it hurts like hell and your teeth will get stain back (or worse) quickly after that. I was never afraid of dentist till the day I got my teeth whitened.
Neffer
Some teeth stain easily; I have never smoked and have the same problem. Its annoying as I have friends with white teeth that do smoke :/ wth. I am looking into bleaching. Its just our luck. People with very white teeth who don't do much just won genetic lottery - like being tall Caffeine and wine do stain teeth but I need my caffeine! Radu
Correct brushing is important. 2 minutes at a time. And - genetics. I have dreadful teeth, but they're rock-solid. And yellow. The more yellow the teeth, the stronger they tend to be. Very white is very powdery...... This, i used to be bothered by this as well. The fact is that white teeth are not that normal. It also matters where you grew up. In places like the US they add Fluorine to the water supply which strengthens the teeth. In other places they don't. The whitening process is actually damaging to your teeth, you will end up with white teeth, but you will also have weak teeth.
Leegh
Don't worry, sometimes on tv when I see folks with super white teeth, to my mind, it actually makes them look older. It seems to make wrinkles stand out more, especially on women. The same thing with super blonde (almost white) hair. I do understand your concern though, and I've read that brushing with crushed strawberries can help whiten teeth.
soccerrprp
As others have said, genetics plays a part for sure. I have pretty white teeth, but I brush 2x a day and rinse my mouth out with diluted hydrogen peroxide once a day. People will tell you that this is not safe, but that's nonsense and results/experience is different for different people. BTW, i've been using H2O2 for decades w/o adverse effects. Just make certain it's diluted <3% and exposure limited- no more than 30s. I then rinse with water thoroughly. Also want to add that your diet is also very important. If you eat acidic/caustic foods that tend to wear down enamel, staining occurs easier. Edited March 30, 2013 by soccerrprp
crosswordfiend
Certain common mouthwashes with cetylpyridinium chloride will also discolour your teeth. I'm looking at you Crest Pro Health!
