Diagnose Me. What is my personality condition?

Recommended Posts

I've been reading a lot of about psychology recently after going through a divorce and basically having our old marriage counselor diagnose my ex-wife as having Borderline Personality Disorder.

After reading about this, I began to wonder about myself and if I could be possibly diagnosed with something. Feel free to characterize me and give your take on what type of disorder I may or may not have:

Me:

- Obsessive about achieving goals, stopping at nothing to get them. Will endure brutal running workout sessions and all-nighters at work to get it PERFECT.

- Thinks about past experiences and doesn't think about making new ones.

- Extreme admiration for particular individuals. Not jealous of them, however. Love everything they do and look past the flaws. Will be overly complementary if in their presence and not looking at anything in return from them. I will not smother them, but they invade my thoughts.

- Trouble focusing on more than one thing at time. Losing interest in conversations with others. Trouble focusing on routine chores when something is occupying my mind.

- Handles rejection and criticism poorly, but will not fight when criticized.

- Fascination with strange objects, strange movies, strange music that most do not like at all.

- Enjoys being alone most of the time.

- Actually desires romance more than sex - as confusing as this sounds. I do not develop any sexual feelings for a woman unless I've been with them for several weeks.

Some people have said that I might have a mild-form of Aspergers...what do you think?

Nobody can diagnose you online.

Question is, are you happy and do you want to make changes in your life? Or are you OK as you are, flaws and all?

I say go talk to someone professional if you want to see if you have a personality condition.

Please note: The suggestions and advice offered on this web site are opinions only and are not to be used in the place of professional psychological counseling or medical advice.

Bottom of every LoveShack page.

No way would I even begin to hazard a guess as to whether you may even possess a personality type...

I know mine changes seasonally!! :D

I actually never sought any type of counseling until my wife and I agreed to go to marriage counseling. I never had any problems with re-occurring depression, anxiety, alcohol, drugs, etc. Very clean, successful life. But with a divorce, you tend to look inwards and try to fix any problems that might affect you later on, hence why I saw our old counselor alone last week.

Thank you for the responses...I just wanted to know if these are familiar traits to anyone...

You sound kinda normal...I would say you have hints of Pure O OCD, probably mild ADD, and are a social introvert. You probably suffer from some anxiety as well, but this is stemmed from your lack of self esteem.

Probably some things you can work on...such as your self esteem, but for the most part, you are probably just an introvert with some obscure tastes...nothing too alarming.

I think everybody has a bit of OCD in them, as we get older, it happens! This time of year, well flu season, I am such a germaphobe! Wash my hands as soon as I get in the door, twice with hot HOT water. If I'm out and someone is coughing, I will hold my breath until I'm far enough away from them so I can breath in.

Quirks are normal, everybody has them!

oh good god. everyone has a "psychological disorder".

its called being human, having normal emotions and insecurities. you don't have anything wrong with you. go to a psych though, they'll give you a few "diseases" that you have and drugs to go along with it!

Rule of thumb with Cluster B's is that they are not self-aware.

They do not want to be seen as being wrong.

If you can look at yourself like this, it is either that you are one of the few who can do this, or you are not a cluster B.

Most ppl have some of the cluster b classifications to some extent. What truly classifies a cluster b is the power of those behaviours and if they go in hyperdrive when you suggest to them that they have it.

Furthermore, if she did truly have BPD, you are a damn good candidate for enabler, and if you spend any length of time with her you are most likely suffering to some extent of PTSD and have developed mannerisms that are similar to hers.

That does not mean you have it, they are reversible.

Me:

- Obsessive about achieving goals, stopping at nothing to get them. Will endure brutal running workout sessions and all-nighters at work to get it PERFECT.

Could be OCD, could be a high level of emotional intelligence.

The latter is damn good.

Are you obsessed with perfection or can you release it once you achieve good-excellent result ?

- Thinks about past experiences and doesn't think about making new ones.
This could be social hypersensitivity.

That's my name for it.

I'm a cluster C, Avoidant Personality Disorder.

I tended and still do tend to mull over social interactions.

But not to your level, i could not function over them.

I cut myself from all my friends several times in my lifetime.

- Extreme admiration for particular individuals. Not jealous of them, however. Love everything they do and look past the flaws. Will be overly complementary if in their presence and not looking at anything in return from them. I will not smother them, but they invade my thoughts.
Umm, i absolutely adore George Carlin and would go gaga if i were to meet him during his lifetime.

Doesn't mean i'm a freak.

I would do the same for Iron Maiden and ZZ Top ... does not mean i have a problem. :p

Nickelback ... could be a problem.

- Trouble focusing on more than one thing at time. Losing interest in conversations with others. Trouble focusing on routine chores when something is occupying my mind.
Lack of multi-tasking is something that all males have.

It's in our biology, women are better inclined for multitasking.

They can actually do it, we can't.

That's why we can't easily talk to them when we have to pay attention to the road.

If it's occupying your mind too much, you could be just mildly OCD or something like that.

When i want to achieve something i will stop sleeping, eating, etc ...

I really don't see how it is a bad thing, unless you become obsessed with it.

- Handles rejection and criticism poorly, but will not fight when criticized.
This could be your enablerish character.

BPD's tend to seek them out, since it's the only ppl who will stand them for an extended period of time.

Though i doubt it, i would not look that much into it.

- Fascination with strange objects, strange movies, strange music that most do not like at all.
And ?

- Enjoys being alone most of the time.
Hi, i'm an introvert.

And i'm a guy.

I like my me time.

I get stressed in parties a little bit, i need a chill down after it.

Doesn't mean there's something wrong with me, it's how i am.

- Actually desires romance more than sex - as confusing as this sounds. I do not develop any sexual feelings for a woman unless I've been with them for several weeks.
I have desires for women irrelevant of feelings, but feelings make it soooooo much better. :)

So i prefer with feelings as well.

I have no ideea.

Talk to a psychologist.

From what you did write, it sounds like you believe your Emotional Intelligence is not that high, which is something that you can work on.

Basically, it translates in discipline.

Wikipedia Emotional Intelligence to see what i mean.

Here's a good question for you, how long have you been with your ex-wife ?

Also, what made your psychologist believe that she has BPD ?

I was possibly going to suggest the same thing. I'm by no means a psychologist, but got my degree in psych :) I also have OCD and ADHD and it sounds like this to a degree. Sometimes though, people just have eccentricities that are not actual "conditions" per say.
