Stuck at home at age 18.

Hmm. Where to begin? Well I am an 18 year old female who is really feeling hopeless. My mom and I have had a relatively good relationship until recently.

My mom works all day(mon-fri) and I am left at home to watch my little brother. (I just graduated highschool) I can't really go anywhere at all, because I have no drivers license. I feel like I am being tied down at too young an age. I have brought this up to her many times before, but she just tells me that I could have things much worse. I just can't see, at my age, what could be much worse than having to be mommy #2 stuck at home, with no way of getting out!! I have been doing this for months now and I can't take it anymore. I was on paxil for 2 years to treat depression and anxiety. I don't want to have to go back on those pills again. It is scaring me because I am feeling depressed again. I want to get a job, but my mom is going to make me schedule it around the hours that I will have to babysit.

I guess I am sounding a little selfish. But I really just want to have a social life and I hate being stuck at home all the time. I want to get my drivers license, but I can't until I get a job to pay for insurance. I just don't know how to get out of this rut, and my mom won't help me!!!! I feel so frustrated. I don't mind babysitting for about 2 hours a day...but I just cannot take babysitting for anymore than that, knowing that I can't go anywhere. I keep rambling..but I am just going out of my mind! What do I do???

Nik, well I hate to say this to you, BUT you sound pretty selfish!

How are you going to sit there and say that your mom won't help you? I'm sorry but for real, who has been helping YOU your whole life? Who pays for your food, your clothes, the roof over your head...... that would be your mom.

Do you know how many other 18 year old females AND males don't have a car? A LOT!

While I understand that you want to have a social life Nik why is it that you can't help your mom out a little too? She is working to take care of YOU and your little brother. It's Monday through Friday right? So go out on the weekends with your friends OR get a part time job for the weekends.

It is not fair to say that you're "mommy #2" Nik. Being a mom involves a helluva lot more than babysitting.
