Missed calls from a private number after a break up?

Was dumped by a girl awhile ago and she said she still wanted to be 'just friends' with me, but I would have none of it: I told her she could either have me as a boyfriend or not at all and obviously she chose the latter.

Anyway, since then every now and then I Get a series of missed calls on my mobile from a private number - they never leave a message and I never answer it cos I don't answer private numbers. I never got them before she dumped me.

I know this is completely meaningless but you have all been here before and I am just curious: what are the odds that it is her just ringing the number to see if it is still activated/if I am still alive.

I KNOW that even if it was that means nothing because she has not mentioned getting back together, but anyway... What are the odds that it is her, the dumper? Will any dumpers here admit to doing this? I know it wouldn't mean anything one way or another but I'm curious.

I'm the dumper this time, and I've been the dumper in the past too, but I've never deliberately withheld my number if I was calling the dumpee.

Possibilities :

1)Depending where you are, (I'm in the UK) here it's very common for sales type calls to not show the number. I had a 3 month period last summer where I was getting several of these calls, usually PPI or accident compensation etc, each day on my mobile. Not much since.

2)It could be your ex playing silly games, as you describe

The only way you're gonna know for sure is if you answer the call and they speak to you. Only problem with that is when it's sales calls, often they use an automatic dialler and it doesn't always connect to the person in their call centre, so it just cuts off when you answer. Which will lead you to believe it's your ex.

I know, it sucks when you're left wondering. BTDT myself.

No way we know the answer to your question in a positive sense, however we can summarize:

  1. If it is her, the reasoning might be you told her you could not be friends post b/u so it was over; you closed the door.

  2. She assumed you are not wanting contact, therefore if she announced herself via the telephone ID, you might not answer.

  3. She hides her number in a call to you, to see if you'll pick up.

The only problem with the above three descriptives:

  1. You did close the door and are trying to move on

  2. If she had something to say, she should say it, even if it's a voicemail after she tries to call you several times. The fact that she is hiding her number (if it really is her) tells me she doesn't have much to say and is simply curious.

  3. I assume you do not want to hear from her, do not answer "private numbers" anyway, so no further action is needed, just ignore them.

Be forewarned, if it really is her, I've experienced these calling attempts and they seem to run in cycles, I have received a grouping of calls and then weeks later another grouping and so on. A relative pattern formed. Went on for several months until she finally left a message and the message was about nothing in particular. It gave me relief to know I never had a soft spot and answered one of those "private calls".

I run my small business and use my mobile phone for both business and private... I get at least 3 anonymous calls a day; no message, nothing...

I tried calling one back, one day. It went straight to a messaging service, but it was a marketing company.

It happens a lot even if you DON'T have a business... my H. gets at least 2 a week....

I really wouldn't pay any attention.

Honestly. Just block the numbers and leave them be......

The only way to find out the number is to use an app called Trap Call.

I know it works 100% with the US celphone providers and I have been using it for a while ever since I started getting restricted calls after my BU and it has worked successfully.

Restricted calls stopped for a while but just two days ago I received a call from a restricted number for first time in months in the middle of the night. Seconds later the number went from unrestricted to showing the actual number (which is what the app does)

I never called it back but it was not my ex's number. Unless she changed her number but I doubt it as it was same area code as mine and not hers. It's just weird that we get restricted and private calls after BU when we never ever used to before (at least in my case)
