Charlemagne
Hi guys, I've a got a problem now. I can't learn.. I used to be a really quick learner, really good student etc. Since graduation I lost my powers I've a lot of materials to study and I have quite a problem to do it for weeks. I'm more focused on relaxation, having fun etc. - can't force myself to do my duties. Do you think it is possible to overcome it? How?
Roadkill007
Doesn't this have more to do with lack of discipline after the boot-camp like school? You're lacking the drive to care, really. I kinda know what you mean, but it's something you just have to work on. Like, condition yourself to set goals, and reward yourself by completing them. Like a mini-game. Not long term stuff either. "In the next hour, I WILL get through ____ amount of material". Make it so if you start procrastinating, that you'll feel really guilty. Pretend you made a promise with (insert something important to you) to do this task. Whatever it takes to trick your lazy mind into working into overdrive. You're complacent right now. The point isn't just to learn, but to force yourself to have the self-discipline to make yourself do things you'd rather put off till an indeterminate time. GL. I'm still a bit in a rut myself lol. LurkerXX
Maybe try something free, like brushing up on Statistics (doesn't go into higher level stuff or computer modelling though-bummer) or Calc, or whatever math you are at on Kahn Academy-the modules are short so it is easy to skip stuff that you are solid on. Code Academy and a few other sites also teach a few languages of code and scripts. Sites like this are nice because they will provide some structure that you have been missing. But more importantly, sticking with SOMETHING that presents new info or a challenge will start the process of switching to being internally motivated. Set a schedule that includes routine, but also some flexibilty for running with stuff you come across that is genuinely interesting to you. Include physical activity, especially some aerobic; I personally like swimming.
