I've deleted Facebook :-)))

I was on there a lot. Since 2008. So many photos uploaded (over 2000!) which was why I hesitated to delete it. Then i read about 'download fb data' which means you can get a copy of everything you've done, messages, photos, all of it. i did it and the download took 8 hours. Then i asked a few friends by private message for their numbers and emails, and then that was it, I was ready!!

They make it fairly difficult to permanently delete. It's not the same as de-activating where you can go back and change your mind.

So from tonight on, the challenge is to not log in for 14 days! Then it's gone for good. I hate that they do the fourteen day thing, but I wont log on. I am even going to leave it a month or so before i check just in case it took longer.

I was wasting sooooo much time there. I had started to add people like my hairdresser, accept friend requests from people I hardly knew, it was getting to unmanagable for me. i plan to be much more productive. more work and projects, more reading, more excersize.....

So feeling pretty positive about it !!!! :-D

Ps i didnt write a message on my wall, saying i was leaving to everyone. not sure i will regret that or not. hope not. anyway too lat.e

There is an added bonus that a friend I was in love with that didnt love me back and we now dont talk in real life since a couple of weeks, were facebook friends. so instead of 'unfriending' him which would have looked hostile, deleting my account is a neutral action. If he ever wonders if i blocked him he'd just have to ask one of our many mutual friends who will in time know i just deleted the whole thing. Looking so forward to not stalking this guys page and getting depressed and missing him. New start :-))

Interesting. Good for you if it's for the best.

Funny you bring this up though, b/c I've been pondering the same thing. I used FB a lot from 2009-2012. However, in the last 8 months I've become a lot more private, and I've only checked FB like once every 2 months now (!)

I stopped posting status updates because I just kind of wanted to fly under the radar.

Been thinking of deleting mine as well.

Good for you . .

I've thought of doing it myself many times. Instead I am just cutting back on it for now. If I can go more than 3 months without checking it or even wanting to check it, I'll delete it then. Right now I only check it once a week (used to be several times every day). Am looking to move that to two weeks.

still feels good. to anyone sick of facebook i recomend it. !

of course if you checked facebook for 10 mins a week, you wouldn't understand my problem with it, i was literally half on it for the entire evening every evening...

posting things with 256 friends and waiting for one like.... worried about what people thought of my sometimes vain posing profile photos

yes , free :-)

12 days to go till permament deletion but i'm not going to log in.

It's liberating isn't it? I deleted mine in February 2012. That was a GREAT decision. I found myself sharing my life with people I didn't care for and spending less time with people I loved to pieces. Something just didn't make sense.

^^ I didn't know about the 14 day thing.

I don't know you but I'm very proud of you lol I am completely addicted, I'm literally never off it. It's open on my desktop at work and on my mobile.

I tried deactivating so many times but always ended up coming back because I was worried that I had missed something. Silly I know.

I'm challenging myself to only check it 3 times a day, morning, lunch and night for 10 mins. Which would work great if it wasn't for the chat function. I can't not write back lol

So I feel your pain.

Good luck and I hope you stick with it. I might be soon to follow in your shoes! :D

My parents and family all live very far away and Facebook keeps all of us caught up. They get a little confused but love the photos of my life and my daughters too. It makes them feel like we aren't so far away. I don't post excessively and I have my privacy so it's really strict. I don't often go in other than to update my own stuff so I don't waste much time on it. I think like anything it can easily be abused.

I don't get Twitter though. I've tried but I don't get the whole craze.

I feel so much less stressed not having fb. I kind of failed and didn't retrieve any photos or messages, but I have contact information for all my close friends and a lot of friends I talked to regularly.

There's a way to turn the chat function off so nobody can see when you're online.

I don't think Facebook is ever gone for good - I seriously doubt it's gone after 14 days. They basically suspend your account and other people can't contact you, but I think it's still there for a while before they actually terminate your account for good.

Even so, there's nothing that says you have to go back to it. Just find other things to do.

I deleted my Facebook for good. It could not reactivate after 14 days so I am assuming it is true. But letting Facebook go was an awesome experience. Might just be my nature but being that in-tuned with everyone else life had me too plugged in for really stupid reasons caring what other people said about me. Might just be me I do feel much better being off facebook. Like I don't have people spying on me or something. Maybe just a personal feeling and I agree it is harder to keep in contact with certain people. But to be honest if you can't take a minute to call, email or txt a friend. They probably aren't really your friend. Just my opinion very well could be wrong.

My bday is in july and I'm thinking of either axeing my FB before June, or deactivating it. I dread the fake "Happy BD!" posts from dozens and dozens of people I never KIT with. I also dread the "Dude, where you been BTW?" posts on my wall because I've taken a hiatus from my church.

I don't even check FB anymore. Call me emo but it's just one big d*ck measuring contest... seeing the same people like the same people's status regardless of what they post.

Do I really give a hoot? Hmmm, contemplating the axe button...

Facebook is part of the problem. I see people my age mid 20's freaking out if their phone dies or they can't get a text message or check facebook. I swear it is a disease. The sooner you unplug the more free you will fee.

^^^^^

Totes!

And the next step is for us all to delete our LS accounts :bunny:

Then we can all go back to the good old days of illiteracy, walking to school barefoot in the snow and listening to the wireless while dying of tuberculosis!!

Technological progress and resultant changes in societal norms: Just say no!!
