zanzi
Iv'e had depression since age sixteen, now Im 21. Am a girl. I have sudden bursts of anger, and sometimes I hallucinate. I have had a fascination with paganism and quite dark mythology since childhood but I sometimes have nightmares about them. I also suffer from occasional paranoia, thinking somebody is in my house. ( I was attacked by what was my flatmate and it has been since then but it isn't the first time a man has attacked me.) But I hate it when I snap at people close to me. Do you think this depression thing is going to be life long, or that it might get better with age? Any friends or partners with depression, have any of them improved or even recovered over time? LurkerXX
I think you need to talk to a professional about this. It sounds like some of this predated the attack but some things got worse after it. At any rate, seek help as paranoia and hallucinations require some outside perspectives, as they will warp what you yourself see and you own efforts. Make sure to talk to a mental health specialist (most importantly), and also a support group of peers will help you feel less alone (check out NAMI support groups).
LurkerXX
Also, some things wane, especially with women, as the pass into their 30's. But some things remain a part of peoples lives pretty consistently. But most mental health problems do respond well to treatment and don't have to take over your life. Seeking help is better than suffering in silence or being constantly disappointed in how you treat others.
steveT95
Please, please go and see someone. It will do you a lot of good and you will not be judged. Depression is now considered the common cold of mental illness. It is nothing to be ashamed of having (hell, I'm pretty sure I have it) and can be dealt with through counselling or drugs. DannyMason
I was suicidal from about the age of thirteen into my early 20s. It sounds like your depression has psychotic aspects. Mine may have, too, by the end of things, although my symptoms were milder on that front. I got over my depression largely through the use of antidepressants, specifically Wellbutrin XL. Go see some someone, you'll be OK.
