JUST KIDDING OP! :p

If he is capable of typing out and understanding posts on this message board, then he is more than capable of reading.

Just like I, I'm sure he prefers not to read if he has the choice.

Reading makes my head hurt. Give me numbers all day every day.

I would never insult a popular series of childrens' books, just as I wouldn't insult Dr. Seuss, The Muppets, or the little flippy toys people hang over their baby cribs. They are all cute and have their proper place in the world.

You forgot Lord of the Rings, Winnetou and all the books by Jules Verne :) ! and Oliver Twist and Sans famille / Nobody's Boy (H. Malot)... and Les Miserables ... This reminds me of my childhood, my dad used to read to my sister and I these books

No, didn't forget those, the above are actually well-written, and not wholly childrens' books.

Nor is Harry Potter :). Something about the characters, about how they interacted or maybe about the atmosphere that touched a cord.

Reading has always had a spotless reputation. Teachers, parents, intellectuals, the media all claim reading is ALWAYS a positive thing. And yes, if you are reading classics, if you are expanding your mind or vocabulary, it certainly is. However, even though almost all reading has some positive aspect, I believe it can also be a huge red flag with girls.

Browsing dating profiles, I see a truly inordinate number of girls who are "addicted" to reading, "couldn't do without" their books, and it's led me to really analyze why all these "mentally enriched and intellectually enlightened" women have to troll dating sites looking for men. I've come to the conclusion that many of these women are addicted to romance novels, and consequently their unrealistic expectations on love and men have led them to their lonely state.

My friend calls romance novels "emotional pornography." He's a really crude and cynical guy, so a lot of the stuff he says I just shake my head, but over time I've come to realize the truth of that statement. If you look at what men want from sex, and what women want, you would HAVE to conclude that for women, the closest analogue to pornography IS indeed the romance novel.

I know a few girls IRL who read a lot of romance novels and they are VERY similar. They can't keep a stable relationship; they have unreasonable expectations which lead them to throw out good men; they are self-centered, selfish, vain and immature. The personality and the addiction to romance novels correlate VERY well in my experience.

It's well-known that most guys use porn, that it's normal to WANT it but also that it's dangerous to abuse it and can easily lead to relationship problems. I really believe the same is true for women and romance novels, and maybe women would be wise to consider this parallel.

for starters romance novels are fiction and not reality....an intelligent woman would know that...i think it i sactually more deceiving to read current mags adn newspapers that are non fiction but contain only grains of truth and a lot of subjective viewpoints, personal bias and propaganda....romance novels are fantasy an escape

so fantasy, romance novels, sci fi is simply a release from the every day not to be taken literally...i dont know many women who believe romance novels are real.....lol.....just thought of something there was this show where people were attracted to inanimate objects.....one guy would clean his cars religiously and actually have sex with those cars....licked the bonnet humped the wheel.......gave the gear stick a headjob......another woman had a thing with brick walls....insert an ouch here......

anyway.....i think ......seeing a guy lick a car and then hump it or a woman pashing a brick wall far more disturbing.....than a woman reading a romance novel....and yep those fetishes are fact......

give me the romance book with the cheesy guy on the cover windswept hair and blue steel facial ex......i cant get the guy humping his car outta my head going ooh baby .....you so sexxxyyyyyy wanna hump your spare tyre..oral ona gear stick..need it gone..i have been traumatized by real life..... give me a poetic fictional romance instead..then i can go....yep its fiction....its fantasy ill read it anyway...and not be traumatized .......deb

Harry Potter had a neat device, an alternate world where magic works. They are terribly written books though.

I don't think reading in and of itself is a bad thing/red flag. However, what you like to read and are addicted to reading might be.

I have a friend who is addicted to romance novels. She reads them ALL the time and her expectations of real relationships are based on them. She is gorgeous, but doesn't date much and sort of lives in the world of romance novels waiting for her prince. She grew up very sheltered by her parents and doesn't have good self esteem, although beautiful and smart, so for her, I think she's been reading romance novels since she was a child to escape from her real life. In her case her addiction to these novels is indeed a manifestation of a larger problem.

I dont conclude this at all. I prefer porn over books and Im a woman. I want porn. I dont want romance novels. The closest thing to porn IS porn for me. I read books just not romance novels.

I did see a post from a woman yesterday who said she read "50 Shades Of Grey" and wanted to divorce her husband. Never know... you may be on to something. :)
