sam5219
You really should not look for a "diet" but a lifestyle change. Several years ago I discovered Body For Life by Bill Phillips. His approach to eating and exercise has helped me drop body weight and fat without killing myself with too much exercise or starving myself. Plus if you have time constrants like myself you will love this program and anyone can do it!

red-rose-in-winter
A friend of mine is on Weight Watchers, and she has went from a size 22 to a size 4!!! Weight Watchers has a "points" system where each meal counts as so many "points" for the day. But she still eats anything she wants...in moderation. And she has scaled down her food portion size too. You might want to join Weight Watchers in your neighborhood. My friend is now a lifetime member, and she doesn't have to pay the membership fee anymore. She also attends the meetings to give her testimonial to others trying to reach their goal weight. She has showed me some of the recipes they give members at the Weight Watchers meetings, and they sound pretty good!!!
Matilda
I lost 30 lbs 2 years ago after I had my last child doing Weight Watcher's. I really liked the points system, it was flexible, so you can eat a wide variety of foods. And having to go weigh every week was motivating to me. This past winter I gained about 10 pounds, which I lost by doing the South Beach Diet. I liked it because I lost a lot of weight in the first 2 weeks, when you don't eat any carbs. After that you slowly add in carbs, and just generally eat healthily, ie. low fat, etc.
Sundaymorning
the hardest part is keeping it off. Good luck with that. The question ISNT "can you lose it" its, "can you keep it off!?"

I then went back to my unhealthy eating habits and gained the weight back. I am now back to my diet, I have lost 15 pounds in less than a month. This time I am determined to keep the weight off. I basically just eat high fiber low fat foods. I try to stay under 2700 calories a day. I have oatmeal for breakfast, a lean cuisine and soup for lunch and then a low fat dinner with plenty of vegtables and fruit. No sweets, no fast food, no butter, no deep fried foods. At least once a week I will eat a decent fattening meal. Usually if I go to a restuarant I eat good.
ktrout
My "secret" while on Weight Watchers seemed to be the old, tried and true, sick of hearing it already, yes we know we know, all right you can stop staying it, now it's getting old, but it's so so true ... diet and excercise! In terms of diet, I really did 2 things in a big way: *Fill up on veggies *No soda And, for those of you out there who are active already but not losing weight: steer clear of the low-carb thing. Low carb + active lifestyle = blackouts. Active bodies need high-octane fuel whether you're on a diet or not!
Haunani
Ktrout so true, it really is a simple concept of numbers.........move more, eat less. sounds simple enough, you just have to apply it to your lifestyle. AND the biggest thing is the YOU need to be ready for it and not to think of it in terms of *another diet*, but one that is forever.....a lifetime journey. A change in how you eat, what you eat, and why. Watch your portions - that is a huge biggie. When they say one serving of chicken, they are talking the size of a deck of cards. You can eat anything in moderation, look at the numbers, when they say 1 oz. = 120 cals (Pringles for ex), can you stop at just one ounce? If not, then don't even buy it. Choose wisely, instead of regular cheese, buy low fat, or fat free. Instead of that hamburger, eat a tortilla wrap, or subway. Cut out all fried anything, any white stuff. Drink at least 1/2 your body weight in ounces (like 8 glasses a day), if you are hungry, find something else to do. Wear a pedometer and see how many steps in a day you take, On an average, people walk about 4000 steps, try to get in at least 10,000 (equivalent to 4.5 miles). Use the steps intead of the elevator, park your car farthest in the lot. Make small changes, and if you *fall off the wagon*, don't give up because of that one day's binge, dust it off and get back on again. Keep doing it over and over and over, until you *get it*, and it will become automatic. You can do this! Hang tough!
ThumbingMyWay
I lost 30 lbs on WW. but fell off the wagon and got 12 back....been hovering ever since. WW does work....it just takes time and work. But basically you eat less, eat heathly and exercise 5 days a week (simple 30 min brisk walk). The point system does work. I did not join per say, we got all the books and charts and stuff from a former member. If you have the will power and drive to do it, then try to get some copies of the program.....but if you feel you need help and encouragement, then join and go to meetings. But a simple way to lose wieght is to stay away from: Sugar Soda Dairy Snacking on junk food And sweets in general Do more of: Veggies Smaller meal portions Walk everyday and youd be amazed how much weight you could lose by doing those simple things.... My goal is to lose 37 more. I have been hardly eating meat, no red meat, no sweets, no fat. I've got more energy, I'm not nauseous & gassy every morning, and I generally feel healthier. I am determined never to go back to my fat slob ways....I love to eat and cook but I won't be doing anything if I have a stroke.
pav186
Weight Watchers is fine for people who need guidance. My thoughts are that you wont stick to it if you always think of yourself as on a diet, because it sounds restricting and then you always look for loopholes. I have friends who practically say well its 11:11pm and when the numbers are all the same I'm allowed to eat a piece of cake. I guess you could say that i'm on a diet but I just think of it as my lifestyle. Eat right and exercise, that will always be the best plan for losing weight. Every diet you read about that gives foods you can eat or point systems all allow you about 1500 calories a day and if you mix that with exercise... you'll lose weight. Its simple, eating right in the face of all the crap out there is the hard part.
