M30USA
The other night I had a typical sleep paralysis episode. (I say typical not because I personally get them often but because it followed the routine sequence that is reported by many.) I woke up paralyzed. This is the first time I've ever actually seen a being. It looked like it was a silhouette of a 3-4 foot creature crouching down on my window sill. It didn't jump on me or attack me (as is common in these reports) but it just stayed there and observed me. I heard a ruffling or shuffling noise as it sat there and moved its arms and legs. After 15 seconds of me looking right back at it, the creature shot off across the room and left. Then I snapped out of paralysis. The whole time I saw the creature it was not a dream. I could see the rest of my room with complete detail, down to the individual blinds over the window. I find this episode has occurred after a week of me praying fervently for God to impart his Holy Spirit on me. I recall actively giving Christ permission to have authority over me and host my body as his "temple". My brother told me this prayer does NOT make Satan happy. Satan would prefer any prayer over that--be it a prayer for success, healing, money, etc. But my brother thinks, just like Christ who was targeted by Satan in the desert after his baptism, I was targeted by a demon after they saw the result of my prayer. They are "keeping tabs" on me like a military keeps tabs on persons of interest in enemy territory. Please if you comment I don't want any jokes or ridicule. I'm aware of the sleep paralysis theory in psychology and the science of sleep, etc. Those are theories and don't account for the profound subjective experience in millions of people who have this. Discounting the science presumes too much. Do you sleep in the supine position? On your stomach? side? Sleep paralysis is known to occur predominantly when someone sleeps on their back.

Author M30USA
M30- do you regularly clean out your house spiritually? You mean like removing things that could be hampering my spiritual walk? I don't believe objects, themselves, hold any significance. They only hold significance by how they affect us spiritually. So in that regard I guess I should look around my house. youngnlove89
That is freaky. I've had this happen more than a few times in my life, once it happened every day when I took my nap for about a week. One time was horribly haunting and I haven't had another episode since then. My feet were on fire with flames (it was painful) and I could hear lots of static noise that got louder and louder almost like a demonic voice and I saw a dark figure hovered over me. I couldn't move or talk, I just had to lay there. I hated it and when I finally woke up, I was very hot. A lot of people just call it sleep paralysis and your mind going whack. But I really feel like it's a spiritual thing. It was so real when it happened.

I had napped for a short bit immediately after work the night of my experience. But I too believe, like you, that while there are natural factors involved, that does not mean it can't be spiritual. BTW, your signature is excellent and so true.

Cool, we are definitly on the same page...I was going to bring this up specifically, although didn't because some don't believe this, so didn't want to offend in any way. There are certain things that carry demonic affiliation that appear innocent. God showed me some things from my past- also just recently, a thing that was OBVIOUSLY demonic I held onto...He made me get rid of it ...once I did (after paying a serious price for not being obedient) things cleared up bigtime. My mind cleared and He began to speak to me again. M30, I couldn't believe that this ONE thing was holding me back. I also go through my house reading Psalms 91 and 92 along with 2nd Chronicles 20 (warfare chapter) anointing doors and windows, the four corners of my property commandind the enemy to leave in Jesus Name...
geegirl
I had this happen to me several times at my parents house. I was on my side. It was about 3pm and I was napping on my bed. In my sleep I could feel my body being overcome by a weight and then I slowly felt the inability to move. My eyes opened, I could see everything around me, the sun was streaming in and I could hear a bird chirping. But I felt a presence behind me, yes spooning me and an arm over my side. I could even feel the mattress slight caving in behind me, almost like a heavy person was sleeping behind me. I could also hear heavy breathing. I kept trying to move and I knew I was screaming. My mother and Nana was just outside my room and I could hear them. I soon slowly felt it leaving, almost releasing me and I moved and jumped out of bed and asked my mom and Nana if they heard me screaming. They said no. Another time, I saw a dark figure sitting on top of me and I was sleeping (awake) on my back. They say to sleep on your side but I had these episodes, not as bad as these two sleeping on my side. Happens most times when I sleep on my back. Now I put a pillow on my chest and nothing happens. Old wives tale says that when you put a pillow on your chest, it creates a barrier between you and the unknown, therefore it cannot reach you. Works for me!

Agreed E, although I know what M30 is talking about, it happened to my daughter when she was 7 yrs old- I had allowed some really bad spirits into the house and she was attacked with the same thing that M30 describes. I'm not inferring that M30 has allowed anything demonic, but attack is attack. When going through the worst part of Graves Disease (hyperthyroidism w/goiter...have been healed from goiter and thyroid issues) different parts of my body would go completely numb and paralysed..it was soooo scary to wake up like that- but this is different. Author M30USA
Pure, something to think about: Why would Satan attack those he has gained influence over through a sin or stronghold? No, he would encourage or entice these people even more. Look at the Bible. Jesus was attacked by Satan at the peak of his communion with God during his 40 day fast and denial of the body. Job was attacked by Satan through no fault if his own. God even said there were none like Job in all the land. Yet Satan came down and ripped his life apart. So I deviate from the popular Christian idea that being attacked by demons means you are in sin. Based on all I know from the Bible, the opposite is true. Gods followers get targeted even more when they seek him. I believe it's those who DONT seek God and live by the spirit that Satan, ironically, leaves alone. Why? Because they pose no threat to him. They are like incapacitated footmen in battle. They can't hurt his cause.
geegirl
M30- do you regularly clean out your house spiritually? Pure, I regularly sprinkle holy water around my home and have an altar in my bedroom. I'm Catholic and incense my home just as my Nana taught me but have had these episodes happen. I would think this would be cleansing. One thing I do know is that when I start to feel it coming, I pray and I pray really hard asking for protection from Our Lady. It gets stronger the more I fight, but the voices fade soon after. It is frightening. When I wake, I feel exhausted. I do believe what M30USA mentioned in that the it targets you when you are being strong in prayer and faith.
Thegameoflife
When I was a young child, around 8 or so, when I left the door open to my room, I would see a dark shadow standing in my doorway. The door would move slowly back and forth, and I would stare at it. Even now as an adult, I do really strange things in my sleep. Sometimes I'll sit up in bed, wide eyed, and tell my wife something is in the room. Last night my wife woke up to me checking her hand, and she asked me what I was doing, I told her I was checking to make sure the snake hasn't marked her. It's spooky for sure. My hair is standing on ends! When this happened, I remember brushing my teeth that morning and I had three bruises, two on my neck and one near my shoulder. I was trying to remember what I did to get the bruises but brushed it off. My gf used to get bruises all over her legs when she was a teenager and she would always have them after experiencing sleep paralysis. I think I am going to find it hard to sleep tonight. I got hit priddy hard last night and didn't sleep much.

I think that if a person prays and receives the Holy Spirit, and subsequently has a terrifying experience like this, the natural reaction would be to think, "Gosh I must have done something wrong, that's the last time I'll do that." But it was nothing more than Satan realizing you were getting into his territory and wanting to scare you away. The same thing is true with the Christian life as a whole. Oftentimes we will choose what is right, then we will suffer for it-- while those who do wrong will seemingly succeed. However, spirituality is complex. I don't think there is an absolute rule for deciphering any of this. Perhaps the only golden rule when experiencing something spiritual is to look at the FRUIT of it. Did the experience make you MORE or LESS in conformity with Jesus Christ? If a terrifying vision causes you to run to Christ, then it was for the good. If a peaceful and comforting vision causes you to continue in disobedience to Christ, then it was for the worse. Look at the fruit. Darkness and lightness aren't even good indicators. Satan himself can appear as angel of light. Look at the fruit.
Thegameoflife
If you can handle some intense physics discussion, you should read up on the idea of a 4th dimension. Do to the nature of the 4th dimension, anything in that dimension could enter a three dimension world, but because light would travel around something in the 4th dimension, a being would appear as a shadow, or a distrortion. Essentially the idea could be that the reason your paralysed is because you're soul is in the 4th dimension itself. You see another being in there but you are detached from your vessel (body), so it doesn't move. If you believe in the soul, and that it leaves the body when the vessel dies, this would explain how it's not visibly seen leaving, as it does so in a dimension that can't be seen outside of that state of mind. Astral projection is the idea that our conscious can travel without our bodies. If we could do this, we'd be doing it in the 4th dimension, but we could appear anywhere, without limitations of our physical bodies have. Interesting stuff.
eleanorrigby
I have sleep paralysis every now and then, I actually like the sensation, unless I'm having a nightmare. That freaks me the hell out, I had one the other night of being chased by a werewolf, it just went on and on and I knew I was dreaming but couldn't wake up from it when I wanted to. I'm planning to go Nightmare on Elm street during my next one and see if I can change the course of the dream and take control.
Eve
Yes, the reason why I am a Christian is because of such experiences. Basically I called on the name of Christ and they dusted. The other day as I was coming out off sleep there was a demon beside my bed trying to influence me to have sexual thoughts but I brushed him away without even having to pray. He left because I could see him. I have learned that it means that something good is coming and the entities want you to be afraid of them more than what is coming from God. Bless some water and sprinkle it around your house. Ask the Holy Spirit to cover you before you sleep as they enter mainly through our dreams. Tighten up on your spiritual practice of reading the Bible and pray forgiveness for anyone who has hurt you. Finally, make sure you do not watch porn as this is a gateway for them. So too are suicidal thoughts etc. Also, soak your feet in salted water and pray. It gets rid of any dark energy from such experiences. Yes!!! Although not good necessarily in a human sense, but good from God's Kingdom standpoint. Just look at Jesus. He was tempted by Satan before he entered his 3 years of public ministry and ultimately went to the cross. Not good from a human understanding, but good for the kingdom. I am more spiritual than completely religious but I do regularly cleanse my house through smudging where I walk through my apartment and speak out loud that nothing evil or that is of harm to me is welcome in my home. I also have this odd infatuation with angels, so virtually every corner of my apartment has some angel figurine, one being Archangel Michael, and one which is draped in rosary beads direct from the Vatican in Italy. I have a personal relationship with God, whenever I ask for guidance or help, He always answers. Always within days. I also have three versions of the Bible in my apartment, one which I am trying to read straight through. I've done these rituals in virtually every place I've lived, and I've been told several times by various people that my homes are always so peaceful. I have never experienced something as terrifying as what I'm reading here. I feel I have a closer relationship to God and am way more spiritual than most, yet nothing like this has occurred to me. Would I take this as I am no threat to Satan?

That's why I don't like those dumb board games playing with the devil, it's just inviting him in.
