Some things you might try when you're depressed...

do the folowing for as long as u need

 

1. IF U LISTEN TO SAD MUSIC STOP! NOW!! listen to like, reel big fish - she has a girlfriend now

 

2. take a shower and look ur best everday! everday is showtime! if u are lookin crudy and didnt take a shower ull feel like crud and ull hate urself even more

 

3. smile. smile when around people, and stuff. when u smile, itll up ur spirits somehow! i duno, trust me and smile!

 

4. stop thinking "oh, no one likes me, i wana die, no guy/girl wants to be with me". instead, think "im cool man, im sexy baby yeah! woo!". trust me, just say that outloud! scream it! or think it! just do it, it changes ur subconsious, and soon itll affect ur , normal conscoius,,,, whatever ud call it.

 

5. hang out with people that make u most happy.

 

6. look in the mirror, and say "i luv u baby, and thats forever" do it now. everday when u get outa the shower, just do it

 

7. if ur shy around ppl, then i recomend smiling. just look happy, and think the things i told u to in step 4. positive energy atracts people man!

 

8. REPEAT 1-7! if u feel like giving up, just say "**** this, why be sad, i dont have to be." u just gott abe tough to beat this thing, and constantly repeat 1-7.

 

now, keep doin that stuff! over and over! and ul feel better soon, 2 weeks, i garuntee it!

 

 

now, aftre thats thru, and u feel shy around people heres what u do

 

1. face the situtation ur shy of

2. everytime ur in that situation, do something more outgoing, like make eye contact"

3. dont worry, just know that making mistakes is the way u learn, dont let it get u down. just learn from the mistakes

4. after u do that, do it again and again till u reach ur level of outgoingness.

 

 

just do these and ull be a new man/woman! trust me these are proven methods i adopted, from my own experience of severe depression. i almost died! look at me now, happy, and stuff. so , just trust me and do all the things i said and ull be happy!

REPEAT 1-7! if u feel like giving up, just say "**** this, why be sad, i dont have to be.

 

Some people have a chemical imbalance that causes them to have depression, so I don't think just smiling and telling themselves to be happy will work for that. If someone's upset after a break up, or other reason, though, I think your advice would be very useful:). Thanks for the post.

So that's what I've been lacking! Seriously that was totally cute. Everyday is showerime! Everyday is showertime!

 

Well clinical depression is depression that lasts for more than 2 weeks. So this is more like a guide for getting over the blues. The blues are associated with a particular event and are temporary.

 

Everyday is showertime!

 

Fatty, the best way to know if your depression is clinical and due to a chemical imbalance is to see a psychiatrist in person. They are the only ones who can diagnose depression. Seems like your username (which I hated calling you by, by the way) might indicate that you are experiencing some form of depression.

these sound like good ideas - but when you do have a chemical imbalance, they don't work. I was just diagnosed with BiPolar and have to take meds daily. I couldn't help the depression.

 

I would like to say that the meds have really helped me :)

I sometimes wonder what cause the imbalance in the first place. Is it our attitude and sad emotions that triggered the imbalance? Or did the imbalance occur first to cause our sad emotions?

from what ive heard, its

 

eating bad, not sleeping enough, ur a teen and ur frontal lobe of ur brain isnt developed, u had a huge state of trama that caused alot of stress wich would cause an imbalance

 

well, thjats what ive heard. so id just stay healthy and sleep enough and stuff.

 

i think i was medically in term, depressed, but got over it even then, but i duno. i might still be cuz i get mood swings and feel down alot. (no, im a man, so its not menopause)

Yeah, some good pointers there!

 

Problem is, depression is a lovely emotion, people loooooove being depressed.

I certainly agree with 7. I used to be very timid. But not anymore. Its amazing how differently people treat you just because you smile!!

 

A smiling face makes you more approachable. I 've met people with sour faces and you know what - I tend to avoid them - not deliberately, its just that they send off negative vibes that they do not want to talk to you.

I hated being depressed. I used to be a VERY happy person, then everything changed and I was sad all the time, I'd cry over everything, and I seriously thought dying would be better. Nothing seemed to make me happy, then I got medication and I'm so much more like my old self again. I really do feel alot better.

Also, the effects of a regular, applied exercise regime can ward off depression AND improve overall health. There's an interesting article in Oprah this month about how 20 minutes of exercise helped depression patients.

yeah, a girl told me to smile because I had a cute smile, so I do so all the time. I'm surprised at the difference it has made.

 

I was depressed for about 2 weeks this holiday season, got over it by closing AIM, getting some stuff off my chest with my parents, and getting some time off from the job.

 

First time that I've been depressed since 9th/10th grade. Was really shocking. First I thought it was lovesickness for this girl. Then I believed it was just the general lack of friends. Then i found out what it was, I spend all the time helping other people that I never hear any supportful words from anyone. I listed something about me being depressed in my Away message and came back after work to a couple of IMs from friends encouraging me and asking if everything is all right. That is what killed my depression, just the fact that other people genuinely cared about me. Some people can say "Oh I hope your day goes better" or "Chin up!" but when someone goes out of their way to brighten my day, it just makes me feel like my old self again.

 

Yeah, then I closed AIM because other people's exciting lives in their away messages was depressing :)
