Anyone else cut out dairy because of sinusitis?

Recommended Posts

I've had something like six sinus infections in the past year and a half. In fact, I have one developing now. :( I spent half the weekend sleeping.

I do notice that when I eat dairy I tend to feel worse. I used to be able to eat it fine until the past couple of years. Now I just feel miserable when I eat it.

My throat feels really phlegmy and I'm constantly coughing and having to clear it when I have an infection. It's not fun at all. I really love my voice, and I don't want to eventually hurt anything in that area beyond repair.

I remember back when I was in choir and took vocal lessons, we were all strictly advised against eating dairy before a concert. But it seems to affect my everyday life now, too.

I've been a vegetarian for 20+ years, and I already don't eat eggs or cow's milk, but giving up cheese will be a tiny bit painful. I've gone vegan before, and it's not really that bad, but I'm from Wisconsin. We have three loves - cheese, beer, and the Packers.

Meh, I'm going vegan. I'm tired of being sick. Has anyone else experienced a reduction in sinus infections and/or congestion if/when they cut out dairy?

What's wrong with eggs? Pure protein, low calorie. Not dairy.

When I eat a lot of sugar, I tend to get sinus trouble, although not terrible. I think wheat is supposed to be troublesome as well. Don't know if it's the gluten though. I've just started a "no gluten" diet. Not as bad as I thought but I am craving a croissant! I'll do it for 30 days and see. If I'm good, I'll keep on and at the 90 day mark eat that croissant and see if it makes a difference. I read that if you have food allergies that sometimes you can eat them after a few months of abstinence.

I have not consumed milk in over 10 years. Occasionally I will have a spoonful of it with coffee, etc, but it's not part of my diet anymore. I still do eat cheese and yogurt, though.

Possibly you may want to stop eating dairy for a month or so, and see how you feel. I've never liked milk, and very rarely have it, but I do like cheese. I've heard that cheese is like concentrated milk. Obviously, cheese is very thick, and probably very hard for the body to digest. Garlic can help with sinus problems, as it is a natural anti-biotic. Two cloves a day is a good amount to consume.
