Perhaps you're hearing what you want to hear to support your idea that the Bible is nonsense. Happiness is good. Pursuing it as an end in itself is not only hedonistic, but potentially fraught with selfishness and evil. Let God decide when you receive gladness or sorrow. Oh, I don't use the bible as my moral compass. You see, people can believe in God and not be Catholic or even Christian. You can go on and say anything you'd like.
