Music that makes a difference

Hi everyone. I made a playlist a about a month and a half a go. It has been something powerful for me and I hope you enjoy it. I like to share this playlist and for a limited time you can download the songs in mp3 format. I made this playlist with the goal of keeping the messages positive and reinforcing. I guess I was successful at it because I have listen to it non stop.

Obiero - Ayub Ogada (I’m not sure what he sings about, if you know please don’t tell me. It’s beautiful the way it is)

Release - Pearl Jam (release your pent up emotion)

Return To Innocence – ENIGMA (I get goose bumps)

Times Like These - Foo Fighters (Oddly enough they are one of my favorite bands)

Born At The Right Time - Paul Simon (ah paul, need I say more)

New Beginning - Tracy Chapman

Shower The People - James Taylor

Desireless - Eagle Eye Cherry

Everybody's Free (to wear sunscreen) - Mary Schmich - Baz Luhrman (if we actually lived like this, the world would be a better place)

Closer To Fine - Indigo Girls

Two Little Feet - Greg Brown

One - U2 (Little trivia, U2 split up, or was close to it until they wrote this song.)

Quiet Please – Galactic (great song to lay down close your eye and let your mind drift)

The link to download songs can be found in my profile under "interest" enjoy!

I am not promising miracles or anything of the sort. However I have found my mood to be lighter, better able to deal with life. I have made some profound insights into myself. I have started the process of finding my pride again while listening to this music; I stood up a woman I never meet before (met her through adultfriendfinder.com), our only intention was to have sex; something I would have regretted horribly. I've been seeking new friends and challenges. I've been smiling more and excited. I realized a couple of weeks ago I realized I am in the process of reinventing myself, and I'm excited about it. I can be anyone I want to be.

I still struggle sometimes. I sometimes cry because I miss "her", but its ok, we did share great times together. I don’t have to forget about them and it is ok to miss those times. It was a period of great learning. I'm am sad because I saw her as my family for over a year. And that is why I write on here I guess. However I do feel better since that day my ex left (way back in February my world got rocked but just keeped on movin on without me), I am getting out and seeking new things to do, having fun again, and at times actually find I enjoy life again.

I guess my point is there is much nativity that surrounds us all the time. Just turn the TV on for 5 minutes and you see Americans who just got beheaded in Iraq today. Much of what we call humor comes at someone else’s expense. It’s important for us to look for life rafts of positive energy in this sea of negitive energy. For me these songs have been a small raft. They may not be that for you. However do hope you enjoy the music.

I'm sorry about your breakup, "searing" was the word used by a wise friend to describe mine, and it's an apt word. I can't really offer a survival strategy, I didn't have to suffer for very long.

I'd agree that music has a healing power, even if our musical tastes differ.

I would however, not reccomend you offer them up for download, for two primary reasons.

1. MP3's suck.

Compression is not a bad thing. It's like folding your jeans before putting it in the drawer. You can unfold them and they're still jeans. MPEG Layer 3 encoding is irresponsible. It's like cutting your jeans into short shorts and putting them in a drawer.. You can take them out of the drawer, but you've ruined the original, and the result is not the same. Even at 128 kb/s, it sounds tinny. Music is a beautiful thing, and MP3 has really stood in the way of distributing good music. It'd be one thing if you were distributing the new Velvet Revolver CD--where the mixing is crap anyway, but to take classics like Paul Simon, and offer it in a format that's way worse than 2nd-gen SP Cassetes is like giving the finger to the song that helped you--musically, not just economically.

2. Those songs are all commercially available.

It's not hard to steal music, I know. If you think about it though, it's really not hard to steal from Walgreens either. You just walk in, and walk out. The chances of getting caught are VERY slim, and when you do, it's an embarrassing walk-in-and-put-it-back. You wouldn't though. You were raised to respect a multibillion dollar corporation who gets insurance kickbacks anyway, but you've got no respect for intellectual property laws. You seem to actually care about the bands--U2 for example--these bands are producing a product, and you're debasing that product by offering it for free on the internet. Some of those bands, I'm sure, are forced to do grueling tours simply because they're not selling CD's. Do you think Phish (Phish and Galactic are the same to me) toured nonstop because they loved the road?

Anyway, not to sound like such a sprig, but I think you should rethink your ministry.

Additionally, if you're going to go against my advice and distribute something, Things that start with "http://10.0.1.2/" are local, only accessible if we went to the same college as you--Colorado State?

Now this an is interesting subject.

I like both kinds of music - Country AND Western. But for several months following my ex's departure, I couls not bear to listen to it. EVERY song they played was about lying, cheating, & relationships falling apart.

If you take a country song & play it backwards:

You sober up

You don't cheat on your wife

Your dead dog somes back to life

Your truck gets fixed

You get your job back

There's money in the bank

You never had that fight

Your mother-in-law finally goes home!

I most definetely agree that music is healing, not just music, but the vibrational reality of what music is, the tones, the frequency, it all has actual results on your body, physically as well as mentally/emotionally. A great book to read on the subject is "The Mozart Effect" The healing Power of Music. I am very glad that music has facilitated your new outlook on life and your passion for reinventing yourself...my greatest congratulations to you. May I also suggest that along side the healing power of music, that there are many other areas in your life that can aid in this rebirth, mediation, yoga, spirituality of any and all kinds, working with animals and nature, color therapy, philosophy, gemstone/vibrational healing, other martial arts, etc. And good luck on your journey...

Sorry to anyone if I offended you by trying to make the songs available. I was just trying to share something that as been a positive in my life. Kinda the same way you burn a CD and give to your friend. Yes mp3's are not my first choice of file format, but it is the most widely compatible. It is against copy right laws because the person receiving the CD has not purchased them. And I suppose I may have hurt U2 by posting the link because they are out the .00001 cents owed to them. However it is human nature to want to share experiences with people. People come to this site seeking support and advice. That was my intention, and I believe it was good-natured in intention. I have removed the link, but the playlist is still available.

To loveregardless:

Thanks for the reply. You posted while I was typing this. I agree with you. I am actually starting yoga this week! I have a hurt back and I think it will help a lot! I have made a lot of changes in my life, including moving into a new town. I've been unhappy about my living arrangement for a while... so I made a change!
