Am I overreacting? Is my radar off?

My girlfriend lost her job a month ago and recently started acting weird. She started drinking by herself at noon everyday lately. I caught her in a couple lies about her new found drinking routine during the day while I'm at work this past week. Yesterday, we were suppose to have lunch which I asked at 10AM because I felt bad of her getting depressed. She said yes and then she was unreachable (her mobile got shut off after being laid off) at noon till 4PM. I saw her after work and she told me she decided to get her tramp stamp tattoo touched up and forgot about lunch. So I was pissed and she was drunk and denying drunkeness. She called last night apologizing when sober. Then today, she tells me she is doing her nails and is getting ready to put on a clubbing mini dress and going to see her cousin at noon today to take a picture with her and leave. It's her cousin's prom today and in her words she just wants to take a pic with her and leave.

 

My radar goes off. It's 40 degrees outside and everyone is wearing coats. Why a mini dress to take pics with your super young cousin for prom? My girlfriend is 25 years old why does she need to hang out with a 17year old to take pictures? Fn weird. Hmm. Tattoo retouched yesterday. Heavy drinking lately. Me getting ditched yesterday. Her going to her cousin's house at noon when her prom starts late. My girlfriend isn't even helping her get ready.

 

When I approached my girlfriend with this. She said what? You never heard of a cousin going to see her other cousin before prom to take one pic and leave with before prom. Maybe she wants my opinion of how she looks.

 

My response was. I think you are up to something. So just tell me. Your cousin has a mom(her aunt) that is suppose to be the only one taking pics at night with her daughter. You are getting gussied up to take a pic and leave? I'm pretty sure prom mom's don't put on dresses next to their daughters at noon 8 hours before prom or even dress up for their daughters prom. Plus I never heard of a cousin attending the pic shootout for prom. I was like what is this pic for? You don't have a facebook and you're acting weird. You don't need to put on a mini dress to see your cousin. I heard a click. She hung up. I'm not calling back.

 

I feel like I should drop this chick like a bad habit. My gut says something bad is going to happen at noon. Am I over reacting? Is my radar off?

I think you just need to have a calm talk with her. Mention how it seems her job loss has affected her and you're concerned.

 

In all honestly, I don't think she's cheating...but more "dropped out" of the world because of her unemployment. It's happened to me years ago when I was unemployed.

 

Be a help, be a support. If she dismisses your attempts to reach out and help, then lay down your piece and be ready to break up if she's going to keep spiraling downward.

You should probably make a few more attempts to communicate but honestly, this sounds really fishy like she's hiding something

 

If she continues to refuse communication, drop her and see how she responds. If she lets you go just like that, probably means she's been cheating or she doesn't really value the relationship.

 

If she fights to keep you/initiates communication, could still mean she's been cheating (but you're her safety net) or it could mean she hasn't been cheating but she's finally willing to communicate with you

 

I hate to say this, but relationships are about balancing the power between both sides.

 

If you act all clingy and pathetic, you're screwed. She'll either dangle you (ignore you while you chase after her like a needy puppy, throw you some crumbs every) or dump you for that stud she met at the bar
