Probably because women are in the bathrooms fixing their hair, make-up, clothing, ect. Men just go then get out. (most likely)

I guess there's lots of reasons for that.

Sometimes women dress in clothes that aren't easy to get undone or down quickly when they use the restroom, i.e. pantyhose, belts, etc.

Sometimes girls bring their friends with them when they go to the bathroom. I'm one of them; I like having someone to talk to while I stand in line (which usually isn't that long here) and just someone to walk with. I dunno, I guess it's just a girl thing.

Sometimes lots of girls just have to pee at the same time.

Don't worry about it, I think we can manage.

interesting you should ask! several years back -- and I don't remember where it was -- some woman was arrested for using the men's restroom even though it was empty. She was at like a concert or a big sporting event. Anyhow, that caused an uproar because most places offer the same amount of toilets for men as they do women, but there is almost always a lot more women who need to pee at the same time then there are men who need to pee at the same time. One of the suggestions was that when buildings are designed, they put in 2-3 times the number of toilets in the women's room than they do in the men's room to allow for better flow of "traffic."

not sure why we gals tend to have to pee more often -- I think it has to do with not wanting to hold it as long as we can because we know that contributes to bladder infections or UTIs. I do know that there never seem to be enough toilets in the ladies room, and it almost always seems like the men's room goes unused!

on a recent visit to Fort Worth, I noticed some of the bigger stores had a "family" restroom that doubled as a handicap potty. There was more space, there were areas where people could safely change a baby's diaper, and they just LOOKED cleaner than the average bathroom. Good idea, I thought.

There's a restaurant in London I've been to that has a unisex bathroom. It's huge - with just stalls & one big water-fountain type sink in the middle to wash your hands. It's a big busy restaurant that does lots of large parties & there is never a queue for the loo, but alas, ladies, there are no mirrors!

Because women use cubicles and they take up more space. They never have enough of them, particularly in clubs. I've never gone into the mens' restroom and found all the cubicles in use, yet they always have the same number.

It used to drive me insane, when I was younger, that there were loos available next door and I had to wait for half an hour in a queue. I've stopped visiting mens' restrooms now, having acquired a little more patience and tolerance of social convention.

At my sixth form college all the facilities were unisex and it did ease congestion but the girls complained they had nowhere to go to discuss the men :D

PS Bluechoc: That's a weird coincidence, I've been to a restaurant like that in London

There are a lot of unisex washrooms in Europe. Each cubicle has its own door and walls down to the floor and there aren't urinals. Works great.

I read once that several states (or maybe it was only cities) passed laws that, in public venues, builders had to build 2 or 3 ladies' cubicles for every one man's cubicle.

We got a lot more junk in our abdomens then the boys do. Takes up more space.
