Col1
What do people love about living in a metropolitan city/suburb (over living in a smaller city)? Edited May 5, 2013 by Col1
EasyHeart
The kind of work I do requires a critical mass of people. I'd love to live in a small town, but I'd starve to death.

Author Col1
mostly people just live in the metro for business purposes or working requirements. Many of the people in a metro area who work in a store, restaurant, police, teach, nurse, sectretary, etc. could get a job in a smaller city. Something must keep them in a large metropolitan city. Maybe family, roots,or identity? That would be a strong reason to live in mass population (and deal with traffic, noise, higher crime, expensive cost-of-living).
CarrieT
When I lived in the heart of San Francisco, I loved being able to walk to 4-star restaurants and treating myself to an amazing meal before walking to the symphony or opera and then being able to walk home. There would be days I would play hookey from work and head to Golden Gate Park where I would wander the sculpture garden at the DeYoung Museum. On Friday nights at Fort Mason, Off The Grid is an enclave of 40-some gourmet food trucks that gather along with live music and mixologists creating cutting edge cocktails. All this would be before some live Jazz at the Boom Boom Room, Johnny Lee Hooker's spot or some other cool jazz club. Now I live 30 minutes south of San Francisco and even though it is only 30 minutes away, I miss having those things available for last-minute adventures. They are still accessible to me, but have to be planned.
Better
I live in the heart of DC and couldn't imagine living outside of a major city. I rarely drive unless it is for work or fun outside of the city. I think my three year old car just hit 10,000 miles. I walk pretty much everywhere. I date within the metro. My friends are all here and we enjoy meeting at each others' homes by walking or public transportation. I wake up on a Sunday morning, buy some food at the farmers market, and meet friends for brunch at a street-side cafe. My friends in the suburbs don't understand, but I love living an urban life.
