youngnlove89
Went to the doctor yesterday with complaints of complete draining exhaustion. Sleeping 12+ hours a day, groggy when waking up, tired during work, eyes heavy, body aches, etc. Can't focus, can't walk without feeling off balance. Pure exhaustion. She took some blood for further analysis. Gave me a B12 shot, which by the way, hurt like heck. It hasn't kicked in yet, I'm still tired. When does it start to work? Have any of you had chronic fatigue? How did you deal with it?
Treasa
All I can say is that last year I had chronic sinus infections and severe anemia. So severe that I was on the LOW end for the blood transfusion range. Have your doctor check you for those things, as well as depression, anxiety, and MS.

We checked for depression and anxiety and ruled those out. I don't have that. MS? What is that?
Star Gazer
Aren't you going through a stressful breakup? That itself can cause severe exhaustion, depression, etc.

Have any of you had chronic fatigue? How did you deal with it? I get monthly B12 shots. They are NOT supposed to hurt, so the nurse or Dr who gave you that shot, did it wrong! When I was at the stage you are, feeling so blah and tired, it took 2 months for the shots to really kick in. Though I did feel a big difference within a few days of getting the first shot. I hope too, they've tested you for Mono.
Feelin Frisky
Have you ever heard of this stuff called coffee? Half of America would sleep until noon without it. Sorry, I don't mean any snark. If you have no physical ailment you could either be clinically depressed which can make people withdraw and want to stay asleep rather than leap out of bed and sing and dance or just be one who needs some kind of artificial push to get into gear your get up and go. Depression is physiological and not psychological but there is nothing that shows up on any tests. So if you're unhappy with your lethargy, consult a psychiatrist. This is no admission of a flaw or disease, it is what sane and intelligent people do to tune up their get up and go. Or you could turn to caffeine like millions of others and just soldier on under the influence of the only over the counter speed there is.

I drink coffee every day. I am not depressed. We did a self test and I'm fine. I'm stressed if anything, but I don't think that is the reason for my complete exhaustion. I'm happy, I want to go out and have fun. Mentally, I'd love to go out and do things, physically, I can't.
whichwayisup
Okay, you didn't get B12 shot, you got an Iron shot in the leg and Iron shots do hurt. B12 shots are in the arm and it's barely a pinch, the needle is tiny and you don't feel the liquid going in. Your B12 levels were depleted and now your Iron levels are dangerously low, making you anemic.

Your B12 levels were depleted and now your Iron levels are dangerously low, making you anemic. No, I definitely got a B12 shot, the doctor told me. My iron is fine. B12 shots can be in BOTH the arm or buttock. Some B12 shots can be painful, some are not. I'd like to know where to get the ones that aren't painful!

Author youngnlove89
Does thyroid disease run in your family? No, got an ultrasound for thyroid, everything was great. thyroid blood test came out fine. Soccerrprp- Did this happen gradually? Yes over the last year Did you notice a gradual deterioration of energy? yes over the last couple weeks, last night I went to bed at 6pm, woke up today at 6am Any change in diet, lifestyle, behavior or was it a sudden change? Not in diet. Lifestyle, went through a breakup, but like I said, this has been happening before the breakup. We all go through every day stresses and I really believe I'm fine mentally. I would love to go out and do things, but I can't. I'm too exhausted. What about sleep apnea? Not sure, how would I know if I have that?
HeartWon'tHeal
Below is a link to read about sleep apnea. You would go to a see a sleep specialist, but your primary doctor may have to refer you first. The sleep specialist may have to you a sleep test. You stay over night and they monitor you. I am basically a snorer with very mild apnea. HeartWon'tHeal
Yes I wear my mask over my nose every night and cannot live without it now. It goes EVERY WHERE I GO! It has also become a comfort thing to me as well. It took about three weeks to get used to it. There are many different kind of masks as well.

FitChick
Were you tested for anemia and iron deficiency? If you look in a mirror and pull down your lower eyelid, is it very pale or red. If it's pale, you need more iron.
PogoStick
All you internet doctors! Haven't you had a blood workup? If you have energy problems you should get off all stimulants (coffee).
whichwayisup
Weird, I didn't know B12 shots could be given in the leg. Maybe they had to give you a huge dose? Anyway, I get monthly shots and get it in the arm, doesn't hurt at all.
Author youngnlove89
Called to get my lab results and the lady said, "we need you to come in to discuss your results, it's very important." Well, that made my heart drop so I got it out of her and basically I'm deficient in Vitamin D. My levels are 19.2 and normal is 30.1 - 100.0 I'm going to a new doctor because I have had enough of the office staff where I go now. They are so hard to get through to and are really rude. Anyways, I have a friend who had really low vitamin D levels and got MS from it. I don't want that. What do I do now? I take multivitamins and get plenty of sun. I don't understand. They say Vit D is linked to heart disease. What is funny is I do have heart issues. I have ventricular tachycardia. What do you guys think?
tman666
I supplement with at least 2,000 i.u. of D3 daily, which is more than one needs, apparently. However, I've noticed that it seems to help with immunity/energy levels/mood. If you're ingesting enough Vitamin D, but your levels are low, then there is a problem with absorption. Talk to your doctor about what could be causing this. There's a chance they might put you on a Vit D megadose (like 40,000 i.u. /day) if your absorption rate is so low for whatever reason. Whatever you do, you probably ought have your doc supervise this. Vitamin D is good, but it also can be toxic in high amounts. The problem is that since Vitamin D is fat soluble, it has a tendency to accumulate within the body, so you need to be careful with over-supplementing.
