savethedrama4allama
Hmm. I don't know, putting on weight has never been something I need to do. Sounds like fun though. I have heard that you should eat a good amount of protein and lift weights. Eat some junk food for me!

Haunani
Hi Andy, I'm on the opposite foot of you, but in order for me to lose one lb of fat, I have to eat 3500 calories less in a week, so I would imagine it would be just the opposite for you. Protein shakes are great, add some of your own fruits to it, or even ice cream and use whole milk, you want the calories. Drink a few of those supplements. Creatine supplement is great for building after your workout. 5-6 meals is great, and lots of water. But you still need them to be healthy, just consume more of it, try keeping a journal for a while and see exactly how many calories you are consuming in a day. Up the calories up slowly you don't want to shock your system. Still you need to keep it healthy as well, but consume more calories than you normally would in a day. I know it must be difficult, my h is the same, we are like Jack Sprat - I am the one always watching what I eat, round and short, he's tall and lanky. I tried to feed him all the greasy fattening things I so loove, but he'd rather have a nice fresh salad and fish - go figure.
ktrout
"If you're unsure about the fat content of a piece of food, rub it on a piece of paper. If the paper turns clear, that's your window to weight gain!" - Dr. Nick Riviera The answer is the same as losing weight: diet and excercise! But, do NOT eat junk food! Fuel up on complex, healthy carbs AND proteins. That advice will drive the Atkins folks crazy, but that's the diet my track and cross country coach always put us on to gain muscle mass. Eat protein to encourage muscle gain before excercising and load up on carbs immediately before and after excercise. You'll bulk up the muscle mass rather quick, actually. Try more weight training and less cardio vascular excercise, too.
pav186
Hey littleandy, I'm also in the process of putting on weight and will be getting certified as a personal trainer but I have read a lot on nutrition and such just because im interested in health/fitness etc. Anyways how many calories are you eating in a day? Are you lifting weights? If youre naturally lean youre not gonna get much size just by eating more, you may put on weight but it wont be good weight if you know what i mean, itll be fat. The best way would be to work out 3 times a week and eat at least 2500calories a day and 1-1.5 grams of protein per pound of body weight. Protein is more for gaining muscle mass and not so much for putting on size...but they do sell weight gainer shakes but itll only help if you work out. I didnt even see ktrouts response which was good advice..i mustve skipped it by accident... I tried to feed him all the greasy fattening things I so loove, but he'd rather have a nice fresh salad and fish - go figure. I'm the same way, i dont have much of a sweet tooth and would choose a nice meal over a piece of cake or ice cream sundae. When I do eat sweets its a little bit because otherwise it makes me feel kinda sick. I just read in a magazine that people who exercise regularly have lower desires for sweet foods, i dont remember the reasoning behind it.

cougarintraining
A good way to gain weight is to continue with your regular eating habits. Then add in 3 shakes a day slim slow, ensure, wich ever. Eating food high in carbohydrates is good. OATMEAL. A good big bowl of oatmeal will stick to your ribs and I would suggest having it for snacks or to replace a shake or 2. You don't have to eat junk food in order to gain. Hang out at the gym 3 times a week, and walk the others, and you should see results in no time. Muscle weighs more than fat. If that doesn't work come over to my house, I seem to be able to keep the weight on this genetic nightmare of a body I was given.

9Lives
I am in the same boat. You need to have protein drinks twice a day, eat right, add lots of chicken to your diet, beef is good too, I drink a protein shake in the morning and in the evening before I go to bed. I really helps alot. I lift heavy in the gym to keep my muscles growing. I make my own protein drinks. i use a blender at home which takes about 3 minutes or less to make. It is very simple but it takes full dedication. That is the key. Try to stay away from bread as much as possilbe but if you must, do it in the mornings. You dont want to put any weight on your stomach. Good luck! Here is the link to the smoothie mix. It only cost .79 cents and it is good and works. You add your own fruit. http://www.luziannesmoothies.com/
Strike3
Chocolate milk alone is great for gaining weight. If you don't feel like drinking those nasty and expensive shakes, just drink the chocolate milk. Drink 3 large glasses a day and that is almost 1500 calories right there. I know exactly how it feels to not be able to gain weight, but it is possible, you just have to work hard at it.
ScottBW
Most of those protein powders DO taste like a crap. A good one however is Myoplex by EAS. The Myoplex deluxe has over 50 grams of protein, and the taste is one of the better out there. You need to eat the right food and combine that with weght lifting in order to put on mass. (Eating junk food will do nothing but make you feel like crap and you will still be skinny) Best way to get your calories and proteins is to eat 6 smaller meals a day. Right now I do 3 good meals (breafast, lunch and dinner) and in between each I have a snack which is usually some type of high protein Bar, drink etc.. I also drink one ensure a day. The ensure plus gives 350 calories and 13 grams of protein plus all the good vitamins you need etc.. (one Ensure = a full meal) Being a smaller guy you will probably want to lift a larger amount of weight and do lower reps, to try and shock your body into growing. I have had the same problem as you, skinny but atleast you don't have height like me, I am 6'4 and was weighing in at 155 pounds. I stumbled across a site last year that has really helped me out. http://www.bodyforlife.com check that site out for motivation. I am not a professional and these are just my opinions.
