C'est Magnifique! Vive la France! (Gay marriage now legal in France)

Tres bien!

(Sorry, my French sucks :()

But really, I'm glad more of the world is opening up to the equal human rights that activists have been fighting for for a long time.

Congratulations, France!

I think it is great too, lovely in fact. And I hope that England and ideally the other UK 'territories' get their act together soon too, although N Ireland is probably a hopelessly lost cause, one of the reasons I left.

The problem is Mr C's "swivel-eyed loons". They are an ugly, loud minority but somehow think they should be allowed to hold sway over a majority that either is positive-minded about it, or at least wonder what it has to do with them.

I really wish he would just get on with it and thumb his nose at them. They're all going to vote UKIP next election anyway.

I don't mind admitting that if I am in close proximity to a gay or lesbian couple getting married or otherwise demonstrating their married state, I am going to feel a bit awkward, a bit self-conscious around them, but hey, as they say, after "a period of adjustment" I'll just be fine and fine with it. Let it roll on I say. Dealing with the unexpected or unusual is all part of the rich diversity and challenge of life. I say welcome it.

I understand what you mean... if I may say so, it was akin to my ex MiL's sentiments when, back in the 50's a young couple (an English woman from her village and a US soldier, who decided to come to the UK - and stayed) met up, courted and married.

He was black.

The impact of their relationship then, had pretty much the same impact homosexual relationships have on some folk now.

Even in this day and age, interracial couples can have a shocking or undesirable impact on many people. My husband and I attract stares and so many other black women are hostile to me because I married a white man.

When we visit the very small town my husband is from, people treat me with kid gloves only because I am a black woman. They refer to me and other blacks as "dark" because they think calling someone black is offensive. I wish I could tell my husband's family and friends to relax. I am only a person just like them; I simply happen to have much darker skin.

It warms my heart that my little three year old niece doesn't care that her auntie's skin is so much darker than hers. She loves me to death; children can only see love and not race.
