KraftDinner
I could have written this when i was younger. What I would tell the younger me is this: don't start some random diet because you've never done it before and going all-in on a new diet without having to do it before is not a recipe for success. Start with just a small difference. Try this: eat what you'd normally eat, but just stop before you're full. It sounds simple because it is...for someone with a naturally high metabolism. I didn't gain too much weight when I went on birth control when I was your age but I know what you mean about feeling more "voluptuous". I gained weight like a mofo when I went on anti-depressants at 24 though. Holy moly. Losing that weight was brutal. You're smart and dealing with this right away. I am 5 7 and weighed like 120, which was super thin for my height, and then I took antidepressants and within a year...160. Unbelievable. I had to work sooo so hard to get it off, but I did. I now float around in my 130s and I'm really happy with that because I'm turning 40 and I dont expect to look 20 anymore or whatever. But yeah, it does get harder as you get older but it's not impossible or anything. My regime is I weigh myself every single morning. I have a set weight I never want to go over. If I approach it, I'm careful for a few days with my portion size and watch the scale go down the pound or two and then I'm good. I've been within the same 4-pound range for years. I did try dieting...like I did weight watchers to lose when I got to 160, but for losing just a few pounds or maintaining, I find I can't be that strict with myself or else I'll end up breaking the diet and gaining even more than what I started with. Sorry for the ramble.
Imported
Never buy bigger clothes. I was in shape till 20, got fat , got in the best shape ever, got fat again, got back in shape again and been there ever since. Before if clothes started getting too small, I bought new clothes that fit better because it was bigger. The intention was to still lose weight while being presentable in my fat boy clothes, but it just didn't happen that easily. Hell, I even grew into the bigger clothes and got even bigger clothes that I once again grew into. Second time around after huge intense efforts, I got in shape and I threw away every single clothes I had that was bigger than I needed. Now every shirt I have, every pants I have...everything I wear.. either just fit me right or was tailored and cut down to fit me exactly right. I put on 5lbs and it is noticeable. My belts, they are custom to me. It is only long enough to accommodate one hole (I like where I am now and am not looking to get smaller or bigger). You can't ignore that you are getting fat when you gain enough weight to make your clothes feel too tight. You can't pretend that it isn't noticeable, because you'll feel it. So deal with it, drop the weight and make those clothes fit correctly again. Don't get clothes that will fit your fatter body, it will not end well there.
Author zanzi
I will start by eating smaller portions. I might try some kind of diet because I have a sensitive stomach and have issues with it, I embarrassingly get gas sometimes and I think it's because I eat too much red meat. the button on my pants is juuust a little tighter. Then again I have had these pants for three years now. the weight has crept up on me. I have always wanted to be a bit more gifted in the bust line but not a the price of having huge hips and a big bum. my bf digs the booty and butt but he said his ex got fat in her twenties and the first thing that happened to her was her boobs/butt grew then she expanded. We have been eating lots of roasts this winter. I feel like I'm being fattened up for a pagan sacrifice or something. I need to get some professional dietary advice pronto... and find my running shoes.
FitChick
There are birth control pills that won't make you fat. Google them or ask your doctor.

iris219
When I took the pill years ago (never will again) I gained weight too. It was like I had an extra layer of fat all over my body. I'm naturally thin so this was very surprising. There was no getting it off--no amount of diet or exercise got rid of the extra fat caused by the pill. Maybe it made me retain water? I stopped taking the pill and lost seven pounds in a week (doing nothing). You might have to switch pills or use a different form of BC.
Maleficent
I don't know many women who still have the same shape they had in their late teens/early twenties. I chose to embrace the curves. I wore size 7/9 at 20 and now wear size 11/13. Now I wear clothes that look much better than it would have 12 years ago. Also, I'm on some dating sites and regularly receive emails from men telling me I have gorgeous boobs. I personally see no point i losing the weight lol But I would suggest you start working out before you start playing around with your eating habits (unless they actually suck…)

Sounds to me like you just need to eat a bit healthier especially if you have a sensitive stomach and then get a good workout routine going. As a guy I almost never eat red meat anymore, only chicken, fish, pasta, mexican food etc. Maybe a steak once a month but that is it, no hamburgers or fast food either. It definitely helps where staying fit and keeping fit are concerned.
FitChick
I don't know many women who still have the same shape they had in their late teens/early twenties. True. Most don't make the effort. They see all the fat people and say, "Well, I'm not as fat as she is." My mother was like that. My shape got better after forty. I am slim and toned -- slim hourglass. When I was in my twenties, I was skin and bones with no figure, no muscle tone and no strength.

truthbetold
ever since I started taking the pill I feel that my body has gotten more voluptuous. Iv'e been skinny my whole life and I don't want to lose the body that until now Iv'e taken for granted. I'm in my early twenties and some people have told me my metabolism will start to change and it's easier to gain weight. I am terrified of this and am going on a diet. I dont want to be fat... Just because it may change doesn't mean it will. I remember being told this as well when I was in my 20's and even beyond. Oddly though I didn't have weight gain from bc that I noticed. I was always a twig. Once I got pregnant in my late 20's again people told me that I would likely follow my cousins and get heavier as I got older. Well I didn't. I lost the pregnancy weight in about 6 weeks and was back in my clothes when I went back to work. I only gained about 30 pounds though and started off at an unhealthy 114 for my height. I was and am one who when stressed, my stomach shuts down, I can't eat so I'm not an emotional eater. What I did discover though after the initial traumatic event goes away and routine sets in. I would get bored, or complacent or whatever and I'd eat stupid things like carrots dipped in blue cheese dressing and call that dinner. (bc my son was eating baby food, seemed stupid to cook for one) Or worse, teddy grahams and dump them in cool whip and so it was no wonder I woke up (so I thought truth is I wasn't paying attention to the weight creep) about 15 pounds over my ideal. It doesn't sound like much but for my small frame, I'm 5'6 but pretty much legs, my hips got a little wider from birth but not much and I'm small busted so extra weight looks terrible on me. My legs always stayed the same though. Not super thin but definitely slender, even when pregnant I had no ankle swelling etc...I have no idea why. I had worked out off and on, but I was one of the blessed ones who could pretty much eat anything and it didn't affect me, until I deliberately was over eating the teddy grahams and other crap. I got back into a exercise regime as I always worked in house for one of the biggest nutrition companies in this country I learned alot. But I also learned diets don't work. Life style changes for good do. I can take or leave chips and snacks like that. I can have a handful and walk away. Same with chocolate, I can have a little and be totally satisfied or none at all some days. But in my early 30's I went nuts trying to figure out how to get rid of the 15 pounds. I analyzed everything that went into my mouth. I was on the treadmill at 5am. I lifted weights. I'd buy the fat free sweets and discovered I'd eat most of it in one sitting because it wasn't satisfying. So I'd go back to the "real" stuff and just have smaller portions. It took longer to lose this way but to this day I'm like the other poster who said they only fluctuate between 2-4 pounds. At my age now which is late 40's. I prefer to be in a 124 range for my height. It's where I feel best. Oddly enough I didn't have to work at that for the most of my 40's and I was constantly told just wait until menopause I will balloon out etc...I made a change in careers which took up my time in education from exercising (looking back it would have helped immensely with stress so I don't know why I couldn't find an hour) but anyway for the last 8 years or so I didn't exercise nor did I really watch what I ate and just by stopping when I'm full and doing weight checks on the scale about every 1 week or so and going by how my clothes fit, I've not had to watch since. Now very recently I just got back into my exercise and weights and it feels great mentally but I'm aware the scale may go up a bit from the muscle. In this case I am judging with my clothes. So I realize I wrote a book here! I'm sensitive when you say people told you that you will gain weight. I can't stand when they do that. I work with people now who are all pretty much overweight except for one. And by that I mean they let themselves get 40 pounds over from over eating at these ridiculous parties we have to have once a month. So it's not a "given" if you are mindful. The key is to watch those 4 or 5 pounds and like someone else said, watch for the next few days portions and things. It's much easier than realizing oops you have 15 pounds to lose. Isn't most of that gain water retention? Anyway, "subtle" gain is not worth going on some crazy diet. More recent studies indicate that what you eat makes a much greater impact than exercise. Makes sense, right? So, watch what you eat. Drink a lot more water when eating so you feel full quicker. Just make certain the diet is balanced.
Author zanzi
the reason I take the pill is because the depo provera gives me lots of side affects which the pill prevents. I would like to stop taking the pill. exercise seems like common sense but me and my partner are quite lazy and when we aren't at uni working we are on the couch watching tv and eating roasts. :/ I try to get exercise, like taking the dog for a run, I also have started to use my bf's boxing bag so I'm not totally lazy, but I feel this extra soft layer of fat that wasn't there before. My bottom is bigger as a I type, and my breasts have grown since I posted this post. My hips look different. that could be tmi... My body feels like it's someone else's body. It's like doctor Who to me. I also walk everywhere, we took a brisque speed walk yesterday and my bf's beer gut had gone down. I plan to start weight training but as a student prices at the gym are murder. If me and my bf didn't share food we would both be starving as some weeks we don't have enough cash by ourselves to feed one person for a whole week. Ever since I met him I have become waaay to happy and comfortable. I will just start weight training and try to build muscle mass.
Emilia
LOL Oh, you're one of those skinny bitches. Last time a woman called me a skinny bitch I called her a fat cow. She was offended. Why?
FitChick
You don't have to go to a gym. Body weight exercises are just as effective. There are loads of videos on youtube by personal trainers and fitness experts. There are lots of fitness DVDs as well. Try them from the library for free.
PogoStick
For general health and calorie burning then any exercise will work. However, there's no substitute for the benefits of heavy resistance exercise. You should never go on a diet. That implies your normal eating is unhealthy. If you really think the pill is a problem then the Nuva ring will work with smaller dosing and is more localized. The Mirena is even better in that respect if it doesn't cause irritation. I'd choose either of those over the systemic progesterone via the pill or depo.
Maleficent
Last time a woman called me a skinny bitch I called her a fat cow. She was offended. Why? No idea. I'n not fat soooo. Not offended. What I meant though is that some 'skinny' people tend to think people who aren't skinny are not making any effort. Which is a load of crap.
